But failure to abide by it cost Boonsboro the boys' team title at Saturday's Washington County high school indoor track and field championships at Hagerstown Junior College. The Warriors were disqualified when the members of their 1,600-meter relay team failed to wear the same color spandex beneath their navy blue uniform shorts. Three of the team members wore white spandex, while the fourth wore black.

Indoor Track Notebook: Hubs on track North Hagerstown's girls should've been recognized long before now but at the Monocacy Valley Athletic League meet on Jan. 6 the Hubs came away with their first MVAL title in school history, in the process dethroning a Middletown team that had won the girls meet the previous three years. continued North Hagerstown doesn't win with stars. No one on the team stands head and shoulders above the rest (except Lindsay Zerance, who is simply taller than everyone else)

An indoor marathon is a unique event. Laurie Dymond is a unique woman. The 47-year-old mother of three from Chambersburg, Pa., was the top female finisher Monday at the first Hawk Indoor Marathon at Hagerstown Community College. Dymond completed 211 laps of HCC's 200-meter indoor track - or 26.2 miles - in 3 hours, 20 minutes and 23 seconds. Her time was a world indoor marathon record for masters (40-and-older) women. The previous record was 3:22:24, set in 2011 by Antje Muller of Germany.

Count out Boonsboro? Count again. The Warriors swept the boys and girls team titles at the 22nd annual Washington County Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday evening at Hagerstown Community College. The Williamsport boys and girls both finished second, just two weeks after both Wildcats teams finished comfortably ahead of Boonsboro at the MVAL Antietam championships. “We had a lot of people sick at the MVAL meet, and we really didn't put people in maximum events,” Boonsboro coach Becky Walter said.

The new and improved Huber Pool at the Chambersburg Memorial YMCA is finally back in the swim of things after being sidelined for eight months due to a main water pipe break. When the indoor pool reopened on Monday after being closed for repairs since Feb. 28, Chambersburg YMCA Executive Director Dave Matthews said it was cause for celebration. "It is a very big deal. We've had our community go from having two indoor pools down to one indoor pool for over eight months while the repair work was being made," Matthews said.

Sunday, February 20, 2011 COLLEGE INDOOR TRACK SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Three Hagerstown Community College athletes won their events Saturday at the Susquehanna Indoor Open. Elizabeth Ross won the women’s shot put with a throw of 43 feet, 4 1/2 inches, while Grant Smith prevailed in the men’s shot put at 51-0 1/4 and Brandon Mauck won the men’s 5,000-meter run in 15:52.26. Five other Hawks had top-10 finishes. For the men, Mike Salguero was fourth in the 5,000 (16:09.

Soap Box Derby enthusiasts from around the region will have a rare opportunity to race later this month in an indoor rally. The Central Maryland Soap Box Derby, headquartered in Frederick, Md., will be sponsoring a rally in the Stanley Fulton Business Complex in Hancock on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 22 and 23, said Scott Fox, local race director for the Hancock Soap Box Derby. Volunteers have been building ramps inside the former Fleetwood travel trailer manufacturing building for the event, Fox said.

The Greencastle-Antrim High School gymnasium was filled with parents and spectators watching students from 14 school districts compete Saturday in the 24th annual Greencastle-Antrim 2012 Keystone Indoor Drill Association (KIDA) Indoor Competition. Percussion ensembles and indoor guard units from middle and high schools from Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia competed against each other for first-, second- and third-place trophies. Sponsored by Greencastle-Antrim Band Boosters and judged by KIDA, teams of percussionists and indoor guard units took the stage to impress the judges and wow the crowd.
