If blue ribbons were handed out for sitting, Harry would be first in line to get one at Sunday's dog show at the 65th annual Berkeley County Youth Fair. “He sits well, but he doesn't walk very well,” said Harry's owner, Morgan Bartley, 13, a Hedgesville (W.Va.) Middle School student and member of the Tuscarora Indians 4-H Club. Walking on leash is one of the tests in the fair's Wiggles-N-Wags competition and that's not one of Harry's show-ring strengths. Harry, 7, a white Shih Tzu, was in his first competition.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- It was pig pandemonium whenever a new class of hogs entered the judge's ring at the swine judging Monday morning at the 63rd annual Berkeley County Youth Fair. It was run, root and squeal as the pigs, fresh from the confines of their pens, ran helter-skelter across the big indoor arena. Their young owners, wielding canes and sticks, had a devil of a time getting their porkers to settle down so Judge Todd Brown could get a good look at them. Brown of Culpeper, Va., judged 118 pigs Monday in showmanship, market and breeding.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- This year's Berkeley County Youth Fair promises the usual county fair pageantry of animals, rides, look-what-I-can-do contests and plenty of food. But organizers said there are some fresh additions -- as in a chocolate pie-eating contest and a concert Saturday, Aug. 7, by the Carter Twins. Entering its 63rd year, the Berkeley County Youth Fair opens Saturday, July 31, with the crowning of a new Miss Youth Fair. The fair continues through Aug. 7. Fair publicity chair Becky Daniel said the youth fair fetches 3,000 to 5,000 attendees a night.

MARTINSBURG, W.VA. - She loves working with children. She plans to attend Shepherd University with hopes of getting a degree in elementary education. She is a senior at Musselman High School and represents the Southern Cross 4-H Club. And, now, she is Miss Berkeley County Youth Fair 2006. Courtney Kilmer, 17, of Inwood, W.Va., won the honor Monday night during the first day of the Berkeley County Youth Fair. There were 22 contestants to start, then the number was reduced to five finalists before Kilmer was named the winner.
