Pa. man guilty of sexual assault CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Franklin County Court of Common Pleas jury found a Chambersburg man guilty Friday of sexually assaulting his two daughters over a period of several years, according to court records. After a two-day trial before Judge John R. Walker, the jury found the 40-year-old man guilty of six counts of rape, nine counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, 12 counts of aggravated indecent assault, five counts of indecent assault, three counts of incest and three counts of statutory sexual assault.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A teacher at J. Frank Faust Junior High School was charged Friday with aggravated indecent assault for alleged misconduct with a student, according to Chambersburg police. Tab Kurtz, 44, of 404 Landis Road in Hagerstown, also was charged with criminal attempt, indecent assault and corruption of a minor, according to police. He was arraigned before District Justice Gary Carter and posted $10,000 bond, police said. Kurtz is scheduled for a preliminary hearing before Carter at 10 a.m. June 30, according to police.

Three sought after police search homes MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Police said they are looking for three individuals after they searched two homes on West Burke Street Thursday as part of an ongoing drug investigation. Martinsburg Police Department officers searched 120 W. Burke St. and 122 W. Burke St., which are in the same building, according to a news release. A small amount of marijuana, paraphernalia, a small caliber pistol and a stun gun were found, the release said.

Man breaks leg when trying to flee house By DON AINES / Staff Writer, Chambersburg CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A man who fondled a woman while she slept with her boyfriend, broke his leg Thursday when he fell trying to flee the house, the Pennsylvania State Police alleged. David Benson Parks, 29, of 16 Warwick Court, Chambersburg, Pa., was charged with aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault, burglary and criminal trespass, police said. The incident occurred at 1:50 a.m. at the Kensington Heights development.

chambersburg@herald-mail.com CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A former teacher at Faust Junior High School likely will receive a probationary sentence after pleading guilty to corruption of a minor and no contest to indecent assault Wednesday in Franklin County Court. Tab Kurtz, 45, of 404 Landis Road, Hagerstown, is scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday, Oct. 8. Chambersburg police charged him in April with fondling a 16-year-old female student and engaging in sexually explicit conversations with her. "The commonwealth consulted with the solicitor for the school district and the victim and the victim's family," Assistant District Attorney David Rahauser told Judge John R. Walker.

chambersburg@herald-mail.com CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Felony charges against a Faust Junior High School teacher were dismissed Tuesday at District Justice Gary Carter's office, but Tab Kurtz still faces misdemeanor charges of indecent assault and corruption of a minor in connection with alleged misconduct with a 16-year-old student. Kurtz, 45, of 404 Landis Road, Hagerstown, waived his preliminary hearing before Carter, but Franklin County Assistant District Attorney David Rahauser agreed to dismiss charges of aggravated indecent assault and criminal attempt to commit aggravated indecent assault.

chambersburg@herald-mail.com CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A former Faust Junior High School teacher convicted of corruption of a minor and indecent assault against a student was sentenced to seven years probation Wednesday in Franklin County Court. Judge John R. Walker also ordered Tab Kurtz, 45, of 404 Landis Road in Hagerstown, not to have any contact with the victim or her family and to undergo any sex offender counseling deemed necessary by probation officials. As part of the sentence, Kurtz, who was a technology education teacher at the school, also must submit a sample of his DNA to the state and pay $450 in fines and fees, according to court records.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A third man has been charged by Pennsylvania State Police with sexually assaulting adolescent males at a Greene Township man's home in 2004. Karl Joseph Schmieding, 29, of Newville, Pa., was charged Wednesday with two counts each of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, criminal conspiracy to commit involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, indecent assault and corruption of minors. He was arraigned before Senior Magisterial District Judge Margaret Bria and released on unsecured bail, according to court records.

CHAMBERSBURG, PA. A Cumberland County man pleaded guilty Friday in Franklin County Court to sexually assaulting half a dozen boys and will serve 15 to 30 years in state prison. Edgar Vincent Stine, 72, of 111 Railroad Lane in Shippensburg, Pa., pleaded guilty to six counts of first-degree felony involuntary deviate sexual intercourse as an accomplice and one count of misdemeanor indecent assault, Assistant District Attorney T.R. Williams said. "I wanted to get something for each victim named" in the case, Williams said.
