BOYS BASKETBALL WARFORDSBURG, Pa. -- Luke Mellott had 19 points, four steals and four rebounds to lead Southern Fulton to a 76-30 win over Hyndman in a Sideling Hill League game on Wednesday. HANCOCK - It was obvious things were working out well for the Hancock girls basketball team by the end of the first half. With a 24-12 lead over Hyndman and the clock winding down, Stacey Pittman swished her only two points on a 12-foot baseline jumper with 5 seconds to go - while her glasses were falling from the bridge of her nose. The Panthers staked themselves to an early 8-0 lead and ended with their second win of the year, knocking off winless Hyndman 54-30 on Thursday.

BOYS BASKETBALL ST. JAMES - David Saur scored 16 points to lead St. John's at Prospect Hall to a 72-43 victory over St. James on Monday. Kevin Henry had 15 points, while Gonzalo Aparicio scored 14 and Corey Dorsey added 13 for the Vikings (8-9). St. John's-PH outscored St. James in every quarter and hit 21 of 24 foul shots. The Saints were 7-for-27 from the free throw line. Matt Greissing had 25 points and 11 rebounds for St. James (1-9), while Shannon Strange had nine points, seven rebounds and four assists.

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Southern Fulton's softball team manufactured a victory in its season opener Thursday afternoon, relying on aggressive baserunning, situational hitting, steady pitching and two key defensive plays by third baseman Kelly Elbin in the final two innings for a 4-3 win over Hyndman. Though they only produced four hits - including two that never left the infield - the Indians made it work. "We don't have a lot of power on this team, so we have to do whatever we can to get runs across," Southern Fulton coach Mike Shade said.

BOYS BASKETBALL Russell Frederick scored a game-high 22 points and the University of Maryland-bound Braxton Dupree had 14 to lead Calvert Hall to a 57-48 victory over St. Maria Goretti on Sunday. Calvert Hall (11-3) led 36-32 at halftime and 45-44 entering the fourth quarter. Andrew Chambers had 14 points, five rebounds and four assists for Goretti (6-10), while Kevin Breslin had 10 points, Gene Johnson scored nine and Kevin Brashears had seven points and four assists.

PREP BASEBALL SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Jonathan Hash, Brian Collins and Richie Nelson combined to throw a no-hitter and Jefferson had plenty of offense to roll past Tuscarora 9-0 on Tuesday. Hash struck out 10 in five innings and walked just one for the win. Collins struck out the side in the sixth and Nelson fanned one in the seventh. Will Grantham doubled twice and drove in two runs for the Cougars (6-3). Corie Gustines added two hits and drove in a run. Frederick 2, Urbana 0 FREDERICK, Md. - Billy Gross fired a four-hit shutout, striking out nine to lead Frederick over Urbana in a battle of unbeaten teams in the MVAL Chesapeake Conference.

Emma Stahl led the way with 15 kills and 12 digs, Elise Manning had 13 kills and four blocks, and Callie Butts added 13 kills for the Hawks (7-1). Paige Kitchen finished with 42 assists and Tiffany Rohrer made 19 digs. PREP VOLLEYBALL Hyndman 3, Hancock 0 HYNDMAN, Pa. - Kara McKinley had eight assists and four kills for Hancock, but the Panthers suffered their first loss of the season, falling to Hyndman 25-16, 26-24, 25-9.

Dorothy Elizabeth Papa, 89, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, of respiratory failure at Meritus Medical Center. Born Dec. 5, 1923, on a small farm between Buffalo Mills and Hyndman (Bedford County) Pa., in Madley Township. She was the daughter of the late Daniel Webster and Ella Virginia (Coughenour) Yutzy; Dorothy was 10th of 11 children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Papa, and their son, William. As a young woman, she left Pennsylvania to seek employment.

Jenna Lipinski, Lexi Albert and Victoria Lulciuc each added a goal in the second half for Clear Spring (7-4). Lulciuc also had two assists. Tori Albert and Jen Bowers combined for the shutout in goal. Megan Rock had 14 saves in goal for Goretti (2-10-4). Boonsboro 5, FSK 0 UNION BRIDGE, Md. - Leah Cadigan netted a hat trick to lead Boonsboro in a shutout of Francis Scott Key. Jordy Bingaman and Emily Cronise also scored for the Warriors (7-1-4)

GIRLS BASKETBALL BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. -- Amber Booher had 21 points and 12 rebounds to lead No. 7 Berkeley Springs to a 60-58 Apple Valley League victory over Hedgesville on Monday night. The win was Berkeley Springs head coach Dale McCumbee's first against the Eagles in his 18 years of coaching the Indians. Jess Haynes scored 12 points, including a 4-for-4 effort at the foul line down the stretch, while Harlie Stotler added 13 rebounds for Berkeley Springs (12-5, 2-1)
