bonnieb@herald-mail.com MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Not only did Connie Mann perform in the gospel concert Saturday evening at Lions Club Community Park in Mercersburg, she made most of the food sold at the refreshment stand. The Mercersburg resident said she prepared eight gallons of ham and bean soup, eight gallons of chicken corn soup, 20 pounds of steamers and 36 pies for the 14th annual Southern Gospel Hymn Sing. "Everything is as homemade as I can make it," Mann said.

RINGGOLD --Â It was one of those rare moments in time when time seemed to stand still. And there were 123 witnesses to the phenomenon Sunday evening at the historic Ringgold Meeting House. "It is so nice to have a place like this where the walls sing back to you," said Ronald L. Miller, veteran song leader and choir director who led the assembled voices a cappella in a series of classic hymns suggested by those who attended the 37th annual hymn sing. From the first hymn, "O For A Thousand Tongues," it was as if the singers had been practicing together for weeks.

WOLFSVILLE, Md. - Wolfsville Ruritan will host an old-fashioned gospel hymn sing, Saturday, July 27, at 3 p.m. at Wolfsville Ruritan Park on Brandenburg Hollow Road near Wolfsville. The concert will begin with the Gospel Travelers, followed by the New Interpreters at 3:55 p.m.; The Grateful Hear at 4:50 p.m., the Master Four at 5:45 p.m., By Faith at 6:40 p.m., and the Gospel Travelers providing a finale at 7:35 p.m. Refreshments will be sold by Wolfsville Ruritan Club, and proceeds will go towards covering expenses and the community activities of the club.

The seventh- and eighth-grade students of Heritage Academy went to Ravenwood Nursing Home on Sept. 21. This was the fourth time that Heritage students have visited Ravenwood in the past few years. They sang hymns to the residents and some students played instruments such as the violin and piano. Brooke Shives, who is in the seventh grade, said, "We made cards and gave them to the residents while we were there. "

CLEAR SPRING - Rachel Slate from Hartselle, Ala., will present live entertainment Sunday, June 26, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Clear Spring Country Diner. The diner, on U.S. 40 one mile west of Clear Spring, is under new management by Louise Boles and Kathy McKinley. Slate is a member of the Alabama Accordionist Association Ensemble. She will play a variety of songs including waltzes, polkas, favorite hymns and popular oldies. The diner is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
