The Humane Society of Washington County rescued a brown and white Australian cattle dog mix Saturday. The female dog was hit by a car and was found on North Locust and West North Avenue in Hagerstown at 3:58 p.m. Anyone with information about the dog is encouraged to contact the shelter at 301-733-2060. Greenbrier Elementary School students recently presented $1,020 to the Humane Society of Washington County, the nonprofit organization of student choice after a presentation in a Gifted and Talented Education, or GATE, enrichment class of fourth- and fifth-grade students. Students researched 10 charities and gave a PowerPoint presentation, which led to a student vote in which the humane society was selected as the beneficiary of a fundraising effort. The “Make a Difference” coin drive coordinated by the class was conducted schoolwide.

The Humane Society of Washington County will participate in the Community Foundation's inaugural 24-hour Web-based giving promotion called Day of Giving on Thursday, May 2, from 12:01 a.m. to 12:59 p.m. Donations will be taken online throughout the day on a specially designed website. Doub technology group is offering a vendor fair Friday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Come out and shop, either cash and carry or by placing orders. There will be a wide range of vendors of home-based and local companies offering some fabulous items. Come out and help the school's technology team raise funds for a worthwhile cause. Vendors will be selling items from Thirty-One, Silpada, Guten Tag home and garden decor, Pampered Chef, Tupperware, Tastefully Simple, Blessings Unlimited, Scentsy, Grace Adele, Avon, Airbonne, Fun Pasta, Mary Kay and more.

The fifth annual Cinderella's Closet fundraiser to benefit the Humane Society of Washington County raised $2,316 for the animal shelter. Glenda Jean Frush, 65, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Friday, March 29, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center. Born March 5, 1948, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Harry Glenn Frush and Anna Blanche Manspeaker Frush. She was a 1966 graduate of South Hagerstown High School. She was employed by Wolters Kluwer Health for 40 years. She was a long-standing member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Lisa Ellen Naile; and two brothers, James Brent Frush and Steven Glenn Frush.
