ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. - A 28-year-old woman in Orange County stabbed her husband during a fight that sparked over having hot dogs for dinner, according to a sheriff's office report. Officers said the woman apparently had prepared a dinner for her husband that consisted of hot dogs. At some point, the man snatched the plate of hot dogs from his wife's hands, the report said. The action prompted the woman to stab her husband in the shoulder with a steak knife, according to authorities.

St. Matthew's United Methodist Church, at 443 W. Franklin St. in Hagerstown, will hold a soup, sandwich and bake sale Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. The menu includes vegetable soup, bean soup, hot dogs, steamers, chicken salad and chili dogs. Carryout will be available. The event is being held in memory of Dave Teter.

The William Kennedy Hammond family reunion will be at noon Saturday, Oct. 6, at  Doub's Woods Park, South Pavilion, (enter off Sharpsburg Pike). Rain or shine. The women of the Mary-Martha Circle will host their annual cookie celebration Saturday, Dec. 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Mary-Martha Hall at St. John's Lutheran Church. There will be an assortment of homemade Christmas cookies available for purchase. Steamers, hot dogs and homemade soups will also be available for purchase. The church is at 141 S. Shepherd's Fest Kids Bash will be held at Good Shepherd Ministries on Saturday, Sept. 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The church is at 19763 Longmeadow Road in Hagerstown. WOLFSVILLE - The annual Garfield United Methodist Church picnic will be held Saturday, Aug. 7, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by Fertile Soil from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and by Down Home Gospel from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Food items will include pit beef, country ham sandwiches, steamers, hot dogs, homemade soups and ice cream. HANCOCK, Md. - Mountain State Cruisers will present its Father's Day Car & Truck Show Sunday, June 19, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Widmyer Park, East Main Street, Hancock. Entry fee is donations only. There will be awards for Best of Show, Top 20 and for the oldest father with a vehicle registered. There will be '50s, '60s and '70s music with hamburgers, hot dogs, cold drinks and ice cream available. The show will benefit the Interfaith Service Coalition of Hancock. The coalition's mission is to assist individuals and families in need regardless of race, religious belief, national origin, gender, age, handicap or political affiliation.

The Clear Spring High School Future Business Leaders of America will hold its second scholarship fundraiser today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Jersey Mikes at the Shoppes at Hagerstown near Best Buy and Chipotle. All profits will support scholarships for the senior class at CSHS. Country butchering Wilson Ruritan will hold a country butchering and pancake breakfast Saturday, beginning at 6:30 a.m.  The club is west of Huyetts Crossroads on U.S. 40. The menu includes all-you-can-eat pancakes with one serving of puddin' or sausage patty or sausage gravy, coffee and orange juice.  The breakfast costs $4.50.

The ninth annual Pooch Plunge at Potterfield Pool will be held Wednesday, Aug. 22, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Claude M. Potterfield Pool, 730 Frederick St. in Hagerstown. The event benefits the Humane Society of Washington County. Last year's event drew a large attendance.  “It was really something to see,” said Paul Miller, executive director of the shelter. “This is becoming an annual end-of-summer event for families interested in having a night out with their pets.

Annual Turkey Bowl held at Wheaton Park Just like in years past, the community came out Nov. 24 to watch the annual Turkey Bowl at Wheaton Park - old school vs. new school. The quarterbacks were Mike Lee and William Keyes, who were also the captains of their respective teams.  The game was exciting with plays from Jamir Burnette, who completed a 40-yard punt return with some fancy moves, jumping hurdles over three defenders. A similar play, a 40-yard completion for a touchdown was made by Mike McMillan.

The West Hagerstown Lions Club will sell hot dogs, chili dogs, steamers, cheesesteak sandwiches, sodas and snacks at Saturday's Alsatia Mummers Parade. The food stand will be set up on North Potomac Street close to Public Square. In other club news, the women of the club will sell crafts at various shows, beginning in November. New club members Wanda Roby, Jim Stone and Theodore "Ted" Compher, have been inducted into the club. They have already worked several fundraising events.

Children clutching balloons and hot dogs hustled through the halls of the Waynesboro Area YMCA on Sunday as they moved from one activity to the next during the Y's annual Fun Day. “Fun Day is really a day for us to say 'thanks' to the community,” said Alan Smith, executive director of the Waynesboro Area YMCA. For more than three decades, Fun Day has been an annual event designed to offer free activities to the public and showcase the Y's offerings. Sunday's schedule showed off the racquetball court, gymnastics and cheerleading programs, family yoga and Les Mills Body Pump classes.

The Labor Day holiday on the calendar wasn't the only thing marking the unofficial end of summer Monday. It seemed Mother Nature was ready for a change, too, as the day was overcast and nowhere near as hot and humid as many of this summer's days. Hagerstown resident Debbie Dawson, 43, was ready for the end of "hot and sticky" days. "I don't like this kind of weather. I'm ready for the fall," said Dawson, who was walking along the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal towpath near Cushwa Basin on Monday morning.

Jugglers, a giant slide and informational stations covered the grounds of Gateway Crossing Wednesday during the Hagerstown Housing Authority's annual Community Fair. Diane Rudisill, director of resident services for the housing authority, said the fair offers children a chance to play and their parents an opportunity to discover programs that are designed to help them become more self-sufficient. Rudisill said housing authority residents comprise low- to middle-income individuals and families.
