Hospice of Washington County Inc., has scheduled a winter volunteer training program. The course will be offered Monday, Nov. 5, Thursday, Nov. 8, and Wednesday, Nov. 14, from 5 to 9 p.m. Hospice of Washington County Inc., is a Medicare-certified, JCAHO-accredited, licensed program of nursing, certified nursing aide, social work, chaplain and volunteer support services for patients and families who need end-of-life care. Anne Frances Shaffer, 45 of Williamsport Pike, Greencastle, Pa., died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, at her home, surrounded by her loving family and friends, after an unbelievable five-year battle with cancer. Born Nov. 19, 1966, in Silver Spring, Md., she was the daughter of George Coleman and Lillian Frances Carrodus Shaffer of Frederick, Md. She attended North Carolina Wesleyan College. She was an avid golfer and softball pitcher. She was also a dog lover. In addition to her parents, she is survived by Lori Ann Yohn, her partner of 14 years; a sister, Katie and her husband, Edward Keller, of Toms River, N.J.; a brother, Todd Coleman Shaffer of Woodbridge, Va.; nieces, Morgan Frances Keller, Alice Mae Shaffer, and Amy Treaster; nephews, Tyler Edward Keller, Coleman Thomas Shaffer, Lauren McMullen and A.J. Yohn; an aunt, Nancy Shvanda; an uncle, Thomas Carrodus; and her loving dog, Buddy.

Margaret Marie (Minnick) Haupt, 89, of Boonsboro, Md., passed peacefully from this life Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at her home while surrounded by her family. Born Nov. 19, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Carlton Luther and Lydia (Byrem) Minnick. Her husband of 52 years, Woodrow James "Bud" Haupt, preceded her in death in 2003. Margaret was a homemaker and retired after 22 years of service as the head cook at Fahrney-Keedy Home & Village. She was a member of Benevola United Methodist Church.

Marshall Lee Tyler, 75, of 1523 Kensington Drive in Hagerstown, passed away Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at his home. Born Jan. 16, 1937, in Lexington, Va., he was the son of the late Emmett Tyler, Lucy Irene (Smith) Tyler Bowman and Percy Bowman. Mr. Tyler retired from the U.S. government's Defense Mapping Agency. He was a member of Colesville United Methodist Church in Colesville, Md. He was a 1956 graduate of Sherwood High School in Olney, Md. He enjoyed painting and decorating birdhouses and Santas.

Fred Schnebley Brewer, 90, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at the home of his daughter. Born Jan. 16, 1922, in Cearfoss, Md., he was the son of the late Fred Schnebley Brewer and Leah G. Zimmerman Brewer Kalbflesh. He retired from the Washington County Board of Education. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army 179th Infantry 45. He served his country from 1942 to 1946. He was honorably discharged. He has a WWII Victory Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon with three bronze stars, Good Conduct medal, Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge and American Theatre Campaign Ribbon.

The Knights of Columbus Pangborn Council 1365 of Hagerstown raised $700 during its St. Patrick's Day charity fundraiser March 17. Members John Navarro, grand knight, and Cel Shannon, deputy grand Knight, presented the check to Cheryl Brown, development director at Hospice of Washington County, on Sept. 21. The Knights of Columbus chose to have its donation directed to the Benevolence Fund at Hospice. The fund provides basic emergency funding for patients and their families while needed community services are established.

Janice Elaine Kline, 81, of 6216 Appletown Road, in Boonsboro, Md., died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard Kline. Born Dec. 25, 1930, in Locust Grove, Washington County, Md., she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Grace Smith Rice. She was a 1948 graduate of Boonsboro High School. She was employed by London Fog Manufacturing, retiring after 27 years. She was a lifetime member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Rohrersville, Md. She is survived by one daughter, Maria Martz of Boonsboro; two sons, David Martz and his wife, Joann, of Williamsport, Md., and Dana Martz of Boonsboro; a longtime best friend, Marie Zeigler of Hagerstown; a very close, best friend, Carolyn Jones of Boonsboro; and two grandchildren, Chris and Erin Baltozer, both of Boonsboro.

Alyce Zimmerman Rauschenberger, age 94, of Hagerstown, Md., died at 12:27 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, at her home. Born March 1, 1918, in Welsh Run, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harry M. and Jessie M. (Royer) Zimmerman. She was married to Otto C. Rauschenberger Jr. on July 31, 1948, at Robert Kennedy Memorial Church in Welsh Run. He died May 17, 2005. Alyce began teaching school in Pennsylvania, and then taught third grade in the Washington County school system for many years, retiring in 1977.

Doris Virginia Ramsburg, 83, of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012, under the care of Hospice. The family will receive friends Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. before the service at Brown Funeral Home. The service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Brandan Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.
