Hill School 14, Mercersburg Academy 6 POTTSTOWN, Pa. -- Trevor Smith threw for 117 yards, completing 10 of 26 passes with a touchdown and an interception for Mercersburg Academy as the Blue Storm fell to Hill School in the Mid-Atlantic Prep League. Smith connected with Matt Young on a 17-yard TD pass in the fourth quarter. Young finished with four receptions for 59 yards, while Troy Harrison rushed for 53 yards and caught three passes for 34 yards for Mercersburg (0-6).

PREP BASEBALL Mercersburg Academy 7, Hill School 5 MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Winning pitcher Josh Edgin pitched a complete game with 11 strikeouts and hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning Sunday to lift Mercersburg Academy to a MAPL victory over The Hill School. Edgin, who gave the Blue Storm (3-0, 1-0) a 6-2 lead with his homer, finished with four RBI and allowed three walks and two earned runs. Garrett Fix had two hits and an RBI while Ryan colby had two hit. Josh Davis added a two-run homer in the third for Mercersburg.

PREP FOOTBALL SCOTLAND, Pa. - Ian Smith ran for a team-high 55 yards and two touchdowns as Waynesboro beat Scotland 21-0 on Saturday afternoon in a Mid-Penn Capital game. Waynesboro (2-5, 2-2) posted its second straight shutout, after routing James Buchanan 41-0 last week. Terrell Rickard was 8-of-11 passing for 131 yards for the Indians on Saturday, and he had a 13-yard touchdown run. Scotland fell to 0-7 (0-4). Mercersburg 35, Hill School 21 MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Ben Eaton ran for 118 yards and three touchdowns and led the defense with 13 tackles as Mercersburg Academy beat Hill School in the Mid-Atlantic Prep League.

Roundup - Smithsburg wins Martinsburg Invitational PREP VOLLEYBALL MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - No. 2 Smithsburg survived a marathon day, defeating West Virginia AAA champion Parkersburg 15-9, 5-15, 15-8 in the final of the Martinsburg Invitational. Heather Ashley finished with 56 kills and 25 blocks as the Leopards swept through pool play before beating Frankfort in the quarterfinals and beating No. 8 Greencastle 15-9, 15-6 in the semifinals. The final against the Big Reds didn't start until almost 10 p.m. after the tournament started at 8:30 a.m. Michelle Feiser had 57 assists and 40 kills and Jenelle Stouffer had 53 assists and 29 points for Smithsburg.

Daniel Bouchoc had a goal and an assist and Tyler Brandenburg added a goal for the Patriots, who led 4-1 at halftime. Seung Gon Yoo scored all four of the Saints' goals, while Ben Louderback had two assists and Thomas Rocca added an assist. Alden Roth had eight saves and Ryan Brandenburg had three saves for Washington.

Dave Reeder, a longtime Washington County Public Schools administrator, will be the next superintendent for the Camp Hill School District southwest of Harrisburg, Pa., according to the school system's website and Reeder. Reeder, of Greencastle, Pa., is director of secondary education for Washington County Public Schools. His last day in that position is Thursday; he starts his new job Monday, Reeder said. Whether the local director's position will be filled will be left up to Washington County's new superintendent, Clayton Wilcox, Interim Superintendent Stan Schaub said after Tuesday's school board meeting.

Saturday, May 28, 2011 PREP BASEBALL PENNSBURG, Pa. — Mercersburg Academy only gave up three hits, but all were home runs in a 5-4 eight-inning loss to Hill School in the Pennsylvania Independent Schools state tournament quarterfinals. Matt Timoney had a double and drove home two to give Mercersburg a one-run lead in the sixth, but Hill School responded with a home run in the seventh to send it to extra innings, then scored the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth.

BOYS BASKETBALL St. Frances Academy 96, St. Maria Goretti 38 BALTIMORE -- Baltimore Catholic League powerhouse St. Frances Academy muscled up on St. Maria Goretti to reach the 20-win mark on the season and keep the Gaels winless in league play. Terrell Vinson scored 22 points for St. Frances (20-3, 9-0), who raced to a quick 22-2 lead after the first period and 54-12 by halftime.
