WAYNESBORO, Pa. -- Believe it or not, this was a playoff game. Harrisburg raced out to a 28-7 lead over Waynesboro through one quarter and went on to an 84-18 runaway win over the Maidens on Monday in a Mid-Penn Conference playoff game. Harrisburg (15-8) came from the Commonwealth Division, while Waynesboro (17-6) is from the Capital Division. "We were just totally outclassed," Waynesboro coach Doug Stuart said. "The Commonwealth is one of the toughest divisions in the state of Pennsylvania.

The Hawks were both teams' mascots, but the Hagerstown Community College women's basketball team easily won this battle of the birds Wednesday night, routing Harrisburg 78-24 at the HCC athletic complex. HCC shined like its new, lighted press table, which was first used Wednesday. HCC raised its record to 4-0, while Harrisburg (0-1) opened its season with a loss. "We didn't know what to expect," HCC coach Marlys Palmer said. "We never played Harrisburg before. But this was only their first game.

-FEB. 6, 2011 HARRISBURG, Pa. — Mary Jane Kenyon, 82, of Harrisburg, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, at Homeland Center, Harrisburg. Mrs. Kenyon was born in Waynesboro, Pa., and was the daughter of the late Calvin and Helen Socks Stover.   She was retired from Hagerstown schools, where she was a bus driver. She was a member of the Clara Sheafer Club. Mrs. Kenyon is survived by her husband of 45 years, Homer Kenyon Jr.; one daughter, Linda Hall of Bakersville, Md.; three sons, David Clark of Hagerstown, Michael Kenyon of Harrisburg and Daniel Kenyon of Tampa, Fla.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The car of a missing Pennsylvania woman was found Tuesday outside Hagerstown, the Washington County Sheriff's Department said Wednesday. A 2002 black Honda Accord belonging to Michelle McMullen, 27, of Harrisburg, Pa., was found in front of Volvo Powertrain's Pennsylvania Avenue entrance at about 5 p.m. Tuesday, police said. "We checked the tag, and saw it was a missing person out of Pennsylvania," Washington County Sheriff's Department Sgt. James Grimm said. Grimm said detectives from Harrisburg were in Hagerstown on Wednesday reviewing the contents of the car. In a release, Harrisburg Mayor Stephen R. Reed said no signs of foul play were found at the scene.

JUNE 24, 1937-APRIL 4, 2009 HARRISBURG, Pa. - Larry E. Collins, 71, of Harrisburg, died Saturday, April 4, 2009, at Golden Livingcenter Blue Ridge Mountain, Harrisburg. Born June 24, 1937, in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Robert B. Collins Sr. and Thelma Hoke Collins. He retired as a courier for Thayer Dental Laboratories He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Sara (Sally) A. Wilson Collins; one daughter, Karen E. Henry of Camp Hill, Pa.; three sons, Richard A. Collins Sr. of Harleysville, Pa., James M. Collins of Hagerstown and Larry E. Collins II of Etters, Pa.; two stepdaughters, Karen A. Maxwell of Elizabethtown, Pa., and Sharon K. Britton of Newark, Ohio; one stepson, Bryan D. Smith of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Carole McKay of Norristown, Pa., and Barbara McCabe of Enola, Pa.; two brothers, Donald Collins of Florida and Stephen Collins of Worthington, Ohio; and 13 grandchildren.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- Jalen Fitzpatrick passed for 114 yards and a touchdown as Harrisburg (1-2, 1-1) shut out Chambersburg (0-3, 0-2) in the Mid-Penn Commonwealth. Brian Reese threw for 116 yards for the Trojans, connecting for 41 yards each to ConRoy Smith and Jordan Franklin.

Seven occupants in a stolen car on Interstate 81 were taken into custody Wednesday evening in Franklin County, Pa., after their vehicle reached speeds in excess of 90 mph and struck a Pennsylvania State Police cruiser, police said. The only adult in the vehicle, Travon Scott, 18, of Harrisburg, Pa., was charged with receiving stolen property and fleeing, state police said. The other six occupants included two 17-year-old Harrisburg boys, a 16-year-old Harrisburg girl, a 15-year-old Harrisburg girl, a 16-year-old Carlisle, Pa., girl and a 15-year-old girl from Mt. Holly Springs, Pa., police said.

According to a news release from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, southbound I-81 at exit 70 approaching Harrisburg, Pa., was reopened to traffic at about 7:35 p.m. Monday. Northbound I-81 approaching the Harrisburg area was reopened to traffic at exit 59 in Cumberland County, Pa., at 7 p.m., so all of I-81 is now clear for traffic through the Harrisburg area. A fiery tanker crash shortly after 6 a.m. Thursday on the ramp from northbound I-81 to westbound Pa. 22/322 closed the ramp and the bridge that carries eastbound Pa. 22 over I-81 in the exit 67 interchange and also forced the closure of both directions of I-81 that pass underneath those bridges.

Franklin County, Pa., municipal leaders joined their counterparts from communities with similar demographics Monday to push for prevailing wage reform in the state's capital. Washington Township Manager Mike Christopher, Chambersburg Borough Council President William McLaughlin and Southampton Township Supervisor Samuel Cressler participated in a news conference in the Capitol rotunda in Harrisburg, Pa. They told lawmakers that relief from the mandate could allow for more efficient use of taxpayer dollars.

The Eagles (18-0) have won 55 straight best-of-5 matches - 51 of them in the MDCC over the last three years. Heritage swept Shalom 25-16, 25-20, 25-15 in the semis and Calvary 25-11, 29-27, 25-19 in the final.

Pennsylvania State Police said Friday they believe the driver of a truck involved in a fatal crash Wednesday evening could be in the Landisburg, Pa., area of Perry County. Leon Chalmers Deardorff Jr., 29, of Mercersburg, Pa., was charged in warrants with homicide by vehicle, accident involving death or personal injury, and with accident involving death or personal injury while not properly licensed, state police said during a news conference Friday at the Chambersburg barrack. Deardorff was still at large Friday.
