Gina Gabianelli, 6, of Hagerstown, donated more than eight inches of her hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths at Sagittarius Hair Salon Aug. 10 during the salon's annual Alex's Lemonade Stand fundraiser. Mina Foutch, 7, of Hagerstown, went to see Heather Parkin of Serendipity Salon in Funkstown recently to get her hair cut. Mina mailed her hair to Locks of Love to help others. It was her first time for donating to the program. She attends Potomac Heights Elementary School. She is the daughter of Michele and Robert Foutch. Locks of Love is a nonprofit organization that provides wigs for children who have lost their hair due to illness.

The following animals recently were found and taken to the Humane Society of Washington County. If you think your pet is among those listed, you may visit the Humane Society of Washington County at 13011 Maugansville Road. The shelter's business hours are Monday, 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Wednesday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. These animals may be made available for adoption after five days. Stash Nicodemus, owner of Dog-Gone Walkin of Hagerstown, has been growing his hair for the last three years and recently cut off 12 inches to be donated to the Locks of Love program. Locks of Love is a nonprofit organization that provides wigs for children who have lost their hair due to illness.

Patrick Adams is hoping people will part with a few dollars if he's willing to part with his hair. Adams, a courier at FedEx in Hagerstown, is raising money for St. Mark's Lutheran Food Bank. So far, he's raised $800. He said he really had no expectations for what started out as a small project to raise awareness of hunger and help a local food bank. "My co-workers have really stepped up to the plate and I am proud of them for that," Adams wrote in an e-mail. Adams, who lives in Chambersburg, Pa., said he grew up poor and remembers going to bed hungry.
