While Pastor Reginald Rice serves the spiritual needs of the residents of Homewood at Williamsport, he will be the first to admit that comfort also can come in the form of a shampoo, a set and a good styling. "It's the best therapy you can get," Rice said recently when discussing the benefits of having beauticians available to the women and men who call Homewood home. Throughout the Tri-State area, many nursing homes and assisted-living centers understand the importance of providing such services.

SMITHSBURG - Emma Worthington may not be the first youngster to contribute her hair to Locks of Love but the 11-year-old Smithsburg girl certainly can empathize with those who have lost their hair because of treatment for cancer. As shown in the "before" picture, Emma holds a picture of herself as she looked at age 5 when she was battling Rhabdomyosarcoma at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Emma recently had 10 1/2 inches of her hair cut for use in making wigs for cancer patients who have lost their hair, as she did six years ago. The "after" picture shows Emma with her new hairdo.

BOONSBORO - A Boonsboro woman and her five children were reported missing Thursday by the woman's estranged husband, the Washington County Sheriff's Department said in a news release. Katherine Willard, 49, of 20502 Wilderness Run Road, and the children - ranging in age from 7 to 18 years old - were last seen at a court proceeding June 30, deputies said. The last known contact made with Willard was by telephone July 1, deputies said. The woman is described as white, with blond hair and brown eyes, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing about 150 pounds.

HAGERSTOWN -- Authorities are searching for two Hagerstown residents who have been charged with several counts of drug distribution and possession, according to a press release from the Washington County Narcotics Task Force. Lawrence Edward Epps, 34, whose last known address was 250 S. Burhans Blvd., has been charged with distribution of crack cocaine, possession of crack cocaine, conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine, second-degree assault and reckless driving. Epps is black, stands about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs about 165 pounds, the release said.
