Hagerstown Regional Airport

NEWS
By Anton Dahbura | July 31, 2005
I am writing this letter in response to an editorial piece concerning the Hagerstown Regional Airport authored by Mr. Tim Bussard in the Sunday, June 26 edition of The Herald-Mail. The author claims that Commissioner Greg Snook's statements in support of Hagerstown Regional Airport improvements have a "political spin. " There is no valid reason for our County Commissioners or anyone else to be motivated to put a "political spin" on the decision to move ahead with the improvements to Hagerstown Regional Airport; the funding process took place over a period of more than five years and it was a broad-based team consisting of elected officials from both major political parties at the federal, state, and local levels, airport and county staff members, and community leaders who participated in the process.

HAGERSTOWN - Hagerstown Regional Airport's only provider of commercial airline service will be leaving the airport in September. Air Midwest will discontinue flights at Hagerstown Regional Airport on Sept. 30, when the company's $650,000 annual federal subsidy to provide service at the airport expires. Tom Bacon of Mesa Air Group, which owns Air Midwest, said it would not be profitable to continue flying to Hagerstown after the subsidy ends. "We've done the calculations, and it just doesn't make sense," Bacon said.
