April 11, 2013
Evelyn Amelia (Elliott) Ruth, 92, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at Heartlands Assisted Living of Severna Park, Md. Born Monday, Oct. 25, 1920, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Guy Middleton Elliott and the late Eva Marie (Stouffer) Elliott. She graduated from Hagerstown High School, class of 1938. She was employed with the Washington County Board of License Commissioners for many years as a secretary, and Paramount Baptist Church, as the director of music and choir director.

The 11th annual South Hagerstown High School Benefit Golf Tournament will be Thursday, June 13, at Beaver Creek Country Club, starting at 8:30 a.m. The tournament costs $300 for foursomes or $75 per golfer. Entry forms are available at Beaver Creek Country Club or online at www.shhsrebelalumni.org. Sponsorships are available for $10 to $500. The tournament raises money for scholarships to be awarded to students graduating from South High. Make checks payable to South High Alumni Association and mail them to Suzie Gozora, 12013 Saint Paul Road, Clear Spring, MD 21722.

William Ernest Summers, 82, of 17312 Evergreen Drive in Hagerstown, Md., died Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at his home. Born Nov. 11, 1930, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Clarence R. Summers Sr. and Julia E. Groff Summers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jean Sprecher Summers, on Nov. 4, 2003. He was a 1948 graduate of Hagerstown High School. He attended St. James Brethren Church. He was a member of Waynesboro Model Railroad Club. He coached PONY and Colt League baseball for many years.

Edna Irene Watkins, 97, of Hagerstown, Md., died Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Ravenwood Assisted Living. Born Feb. 25, 1916, in Leitersburg, Md., she was the daughter of the late H. Buhrman and Anna E. Neff Beard. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Charles Albert Watkins, on Nov. 14, 2006. She was a 1935 graduate of Hagerstown High School. She worked in various jobs in the Hagerstown area, and worked with her father in the grocery business. She was a life member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Ruth Virginia (Rohrer) Davis, 88, of Hagerstown, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center. Born April 2, 1924, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Karl W. and Jeanette (Burger) Rohrer. She attended Hagerstown High School and was a former member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church. Ruth worked as a home health care nurse up until her 70s. Her patients loved her. She also had worked at Maryland Ribbon Co., Mack Trucks and the Silk Mill, all in Hagerstown.

Ruth Louise (Willis) Bileci, 91, of Hagerstown, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Broadmore Assisted Living. Born March 13, 1922, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late French Elmer and Ruth Winifred (Stotler) Willis. Louise was a 1940 graduate of Hagerstown High School and went on to graduate from Western Maryland College. While living briefly in Michigan, Louise worked for Gilbert Associates as a writer of job proposals. She was a handbell consultant for Melmark Co. for more than 50 years, serving the local area in Cumberland and Frederick.

Mrs. Mary June Kuhn Walker, 91, of Hagerstown, Md., died Monday, April 1, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown.  She was the wife of the late Joseph Hurd Walker II, her husband of 68 years, who died in 2010. Born June 22, 1921, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Harry Clyde Kuhn and Vesta Naomi Manahan Kuhn Ramsey. She graduated with the class of 1939 from Hagerstown High School.  She worked for C&P Telephone Co. during World War II; Goldwater's Department Store in Scottsdale, Ariz.; and retired as a court clerk from State of Maryland District Court in Washington County.

H. Darlene Sparaco, 82, of Hagerstown, Md., died Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center. Born Oct. 2, 1930, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Truman Carvel and Clara Bell White Smith. She was a 1948 graduate of Hagerstown High School. She was employed by the Washington County Department of Social Services for 43 years, retiring in January 1992. She was a member of Hagerstown Church of the Brethren and Maryland Classified Employees Association.
