July 24, 2013
George A. Miller, 78, of South Carlisle Street in Greencastle, Pa., died Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at 7 a.m. in the emergency room at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital. Born Feb. 17, 1935, in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of the late George S. and Julia Virginia (Winters) Miller. He married Joyce E. (Miller) Miller on July 5, 1963, in Hagerstown. George was an electrician, having worked for the former J.B. Ferguson & Co. in Hagerstown, and he last worked for Ellsworth Electric Co. in Hagerstown.

Mrs. Wilma June Lynn Myers, of Salisbury, Md., and formerly of Hagers-town, died Tuesday, July 16, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury. She was the wife of the late Elmer Leroy Myers, who preceded her in death in September 1998. Born July 16, 1924, she was one of four children of Amos and Ima Myrtle Nally Lynn. Mrs. Myers was a graduate of Hagerstown High School, and a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Hagerstown. Surviving are her children, Lynette Carobrese and husband, Richard, of Scottsdale, Ariz., Rodney L. Myers of Salisbury, and Cindy Driscoll and husband, Pat, of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; as well as two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Beverly Ann Saunders, 74, of 18017 Mason Dixon Road in Hagerstown, Md., died Friday, July 19, 2013, at her home. Born Aug. 4, 1938, in Washington County, Md., she was the daughter of the late George Washington and Mildred Irene Whitmore Jones. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Frederick Saunders, on April 13, 2002. She was a 1956 graduate of Hagerstown High School. She attended Hagerstown Business College and had previously been employed as a secretary, retiring to be a loving mother and housewife for 55 years.

Robert A. Ludwig, 90, of Hagerstown, Md., died Sunday morning, July 14, 2013, at his home in Hagerstown. Born April 4, 1923, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Frederick and Vida Shewbridge Ludwig. He was a 1940 graduate of Hagerstown High School. He retired in 1983 from the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hagerstown. He is survived by his wife, Helen Charles Ludwig; two sons, Robert Ludwig Jr. and wife, Mina, of Springfield, Va., and Karl Ludwig and wife, Peggy, of Whitesboro, N.Y.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Fran Keefauver Hoover, 88, died Sunday, July 14, 2013, at Julia Manor Nursing Home, where she was a resident. Born Oct. 28, 1924, in Hagerstown, Md., she was the daughter of the late Viola M. Burger and the late Wilbur L. Keefauver Sr. Her stepfather was the late Roland L. Burger. Her husband, Raymond B. Hoover, preceded her in death Aug. 23, 1994. She was a graduate of Hagerstown High School in the Class of 1943. In her early life, Fran was an employee at the Keystone Soda Fountain and the News Agency in the public square of Hagerstown.

Rosalie May Miller, 74, of Hagerstown, Md., died Thursday, July 4, 2013, at her residence of respiratory failure. She was born Dec. 11, 1938, in Quincy Township, Pa. She spent much of her life on Bower Avenue in Hagerstown along with her only sister, Judy. She married Glenn Edward Miller on Oct. 22, 1955. They would have been married 58 years had she survived until October. She graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1956. She went on to acquire some college credits. She worked as a buyer and a personnel director for Marsh McBirney in Frederick, Md. When she retired from there, she went to work part time at Kohl's department store because she loved working with and just being around people.

Pearl R. "Sammy" White, 91, went home to the Lord on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, in Sarasota, Fla. Born July 14, 1921, in Martinsburg, W.Va., Sammy was the daughter of Paul and Pearl (Bohrer) Rider. She grew up in Hagerstown, Md., where she graduated from Hagerstown High School. She went on to graduate from the nursing program at Washington County Hospital as a registered nurse, and enlisted as an Army nurse in 1945. She was en route to the South Pacific when the war ended. After marrying Skip, her husband of 63 years, she moved to the Baltimore area, where she became a psychiatric nurse at Maryland's Rosewood State Hospital.

Elizabeth A. Plack, 91, died at noon on her birthday, June 15, in Washington, D.C., as a result of a general decline in health. Born in 1922 in Hagerstown, Md., Betty graduated from Hagerstown High School, followed by graduation from Goucher College in Towson, Md., in 1944, with a degree in fine arts. Her further education included a Harvard Radcliffe program of business administration in 1952. At the time, this was the only Master of Business Administration equivalent program open to women, making her a pioneer in the equal rights struggle.

Betty Lou Lynn, 87, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Williamsport Nursing Home, Williamsport, Md. Born May 13, 1926, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Anna Elizabeth Everly Pompell. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edwin Eugene Munson Sr., in 1996; and her second husband, Luther Martin Lynn, in 2000. She was a graduate of Hagerstown High School. She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Matthew's United Methodist Church, Hagerstown.
