William Harry "Bill" "Buddy" Shatzer, 77, of Hagerstown, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 17, 2013, at his home. Born July 11, 1935, in Washington County, Md., he was the son of the late Floyd Jacob and Jessie Irene Brill Shatzer Turner. In his teens, Bill worked on the farm behind Rest Haven Cemetery and it was his fondest dream that he would someday own a working farm. He worked for 25 years at Manbeck's Bread Company, where he was a dough mixer. He worked for two years at the Fairchild Republic Company, where he was hired as a certified welder but without much welding to be done he worked on the 757 production line.

Catherine Lorraine (Deibert) Delauter, 88, of Hagerstown, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Coffman Nursing Home, with her granddaughter at her side. Born Feb. 14, 1925, in St. James, Md., she was the daughter of the late Walter and Beulah (Delauter) Deibert. Catherine was a 1943 graduate of Hagerstown High School. She was a lifetime member of Hagerstown Church of the Brethren where she served as the secretary of the United Workers Sunday school class for 65 years. She was a church hostess for many years, specializing in banquets and cooking meals.

Martha Louise Thornton, 98, of Hagerstown, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2013. A longtime resident of Homewood Retirement Village, Louise spent her final days at Williamsport Nursing Home. Born Jan. 28, 1915, in Luray, Va., she was the daughter of the late Polk and Mayme Shenk. She graduated from Hagerstown High School with the class of 1933 and was a homemaker. Louise loved playing bridge with her many friends and was a former 50-year member of The Women's Club. She especially enjoyed gardening and was a member of Cross Roads Garden Club, and Town and Country Garden Club.

Doris Jean Bloom, 91, of Pennsylvania Avenue in Hagerstown, Md., died Thursday, May 9, 2013, surrounded by her family. She was the wife of Dr. David H. Bloom, who practiced dentistry in Hagerstown and Ringgold. Born Oct. 30, 1921, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Ethel Krouse Weagley and Joseph Guy Weagley, who served as Circuit Court clerk for Washington County from 1946 to 1954. A 1939 graduate of Hagerstown High School, she attended Hagerstown Business School.

Robert Littleton Jr., 82, beloved father and grandfather, of Hagerstown, Md., went to be with his Savior on Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Williamsport Retirement Village in Williamsport, Md. Born Aug. 30, 1930, in Miller's Crossroads, W.Va., he was the son of the late Blanche Fraley. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Harriet Littleton, on Dec. 5, 2009. He attended Hagerstown High School. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Korea, Germany and Japan.

William Carl Calhoun, 85, of Hagerstown, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013, at his home. Born Dec. 30, 1927, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Karl K. and Muriel Calhoun. William was a 1946 graduate of Hagerstown High School. He went on to attend Virginia Tech University after serving in the Navy. He worked as a lumber salesman for Dixie Lumber in downtown Hagerstown. He was also a Scoutmaster with Troop 10 for more than 15 years at Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Alsatia Club, the Elks Club and Morris Frock American Legion Post No. 42. William is survived by a daughter, Gayle Calhoun Waltersdorf of Hagerstown; three sons, Michael Stuart Calhoun and wife, Cathy, of Colonial Heights, Va., James Wilson Calhoun and wife, Debbie, of Big Pool, and Timothy Blaine Calhoun and wife, Barbara, of Hagerstown; a sister, Mary Jane Viar of Hagerstown; five grandchildren, Collin A. Calhoun of Williamsport, Gregory W. Calhoun and wife, Sondra, of Philadelphia, James DeVore Waltersdorf and wife, Nicole, of Long Island, N.Y., Kelsey J. Calhoun of Colonial Heights and Laura A. Calhoun of Hagerstown; a niece, Kay Rozinak of Pittsburgh; and a nephew, Donnie Viar of Hagerstown.

David Angle Wolfinger Jr., 86, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at the Meritus Medical Center. Born Monday, March 28, 1927, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late David Angle Wolfinger Sr. and the late Edna Mae (Shilling) Wolfinger. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jetta Lorraine Wolfinger, in 1965. He graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1945 and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during the later part of World War II. He was employed with C & P Telephone, retiring in 1981 after 32 years of service.

Mr. Earl Loyde Grove, 86, of Hagerstown, died Monday, April 29, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown. He was the husband of Betty Jane McKinsey Grove, her husband of 66 years. Born June 21, 1926, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Clyde Arthur and Alpha Myrtle Fox Grove. He attended Hagerstown High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served with the Army's 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. He was employed by ACME Supermarkets as a meat cutter, retiring with 40 years of service.

John Sylvester Kennedy, 76, of Cumberland, Md., passed away Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Western Maryland Regional Hospital in Cumberland. Born Feb. 23, 1937, in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of the late John F. and Catherine I. (Ricketts) Kennedy. He was a 1956 graduate of Hagerstown High School. John had worked for Dow Jones in Silver Spring, Md., and was a machinist at The Herald-Mail for more than 20 years. John retired in 2001 from Canteen, where he repaired vending machines.
