Hagerstown High School's 70th reunion and luncheon will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at Fountain Head Country Club. Admission costs $25 per person, and invitations were mailed on June 1. The annual meeting for the Washington County Homemakers marked more than 90 years of community service and home life education for nine clubs of approximately 200 members in Washington County. The theme for this year's meeting was "School Days. " A replica of Hagerstown High School, made by member Millie Wilson, served as a backdrop for the June 23 luncheon meeting at Next Dimensions Restaurant. Special exhibits included old school photographs. Fifteen of the members present attended Hagerstown High School, as well as Julia Miller, who taught at the school from 1954-1955.

MAY 2, 1936-DEC. 11, 2008 Kenneth Leon Grimm Sr., age 72, of Leon Grimm Drive, Hagerstown, passed away Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008. Born May 2, 1936, in Waynesboro, Va., he was the son of the late Leon Martin Grimm and Anna Margaret Gum Grimm. He was a graduate of the Hagerstown High School. He was the owner and operator of the K.L. Grimm Trucking Company for over 40 years and was a dairy farmer for many years. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Bell Grimm of Hagerstown; three sons, Kenneth L. Grimm Jr. and wife Ginger, Keith L. Grimm and wife Juanita, and Kevin L. Grimm, all of Hagerstown; two daughters, Krista O'Brien and husband David of Hedgesville, W.Va.

Richard P. Dansberger, 86, of Hagerstown died Thursday, July 5, 2012, at Golden Living Center after an extended illness. Born March 17, 1926, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Emory and Ella Dansberger. Richard lived in the Hagerstown area all of his life, and attended Hagerstown High School before becoming a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was an amateur photographer, and had a large collection of books, records and Western pictures. Richard retired after 43 years of service with The Herald-Mail Co. He was a member of Elks Club 378, Alsatia Club, Morris Frock American Legion Post 42, VFW of Chambersburg, Pa., The Herald-Mail 25-Year Club and the University of Maryland Terrapin Club.

MARCH 5, 1924-MARCH 4, 2009 MELBOURNE, Fla. - William Sanford Fisher, 84, passed away from cancer Thursday, March 4, 2009, in Melbourne, Fla. He was born March 5, 1924, in Hagerstown, Md. He graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1942. He served as a B-17 pilot with 8th Air Force in London during World War II. He worked as an architect for DuPont in Wilmington, Del. He retired to Melbourne. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Edie; daughters, Willa Fabian of Atlanta, Ga., and Wanda Stewart of Melbourne; three grandchildren; and a sister, Charlotte Fisher Happel of San Jose, Calif.

JULY 5, 1919-OCT 10, 2009 FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Margaret Hope McDonald, 90, of Falling Waters, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at NMS Health Care in Hagerstown. She was a 1937 graduate of Hagerstown High School. Born July 5, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Clyde L. Barnhart and Nora H. Barnhart. She is survived by two brothers, Victor D. Barnhart and Robert C. Barnhart; three nieces, Shelley J. Mathias, Sandra M. Simpson and Cathy D. Betker; and five nephews, Robert C. Barnhart Jr., Brian D. Barnhart, Dwight D. Barnhart, Keith D. Barnhart and Craig D. Barnhart.

The City of Hagerstown Water Department provided information about its hydrant-flushing schedule. Hydrants in Zone 6 will be flushed from Tuesday, Aug. 27, through Tuesday, Sept. 3. That includes the area bordered by the Pennsylvania Railroad tracks to the west, Memorial Boulevard to the north, Rose Hill Avenue to the east and South Hagerstown High School to the south, including all of Pope Avenue and Corbett Street. The water department advises water customers in those areas, especially those using automatic washing machines, to frequently check their water supply for discolored water conditions, which might occur because of the work being done.

David Lester Carroll, 87, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at his home. Born Sunday, Aug. 29, 1926, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late George Carroll and the late Malissa (Snyder) Carroll. He attended Hagerstown High School. He retired from M.P. Moller after 41 years. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a member at Grace United Methodist Church, the Elks Lodge 378, American Legion Post 211 and Woodmen of the World.

A typical West End childhood, a love for sports and the outdoors, a memorable World War II experience with the U.S. Navy, a long career as a cabinetmaker and family were the things that mattered most to Douglas P. “Doug” Weaver Jr. Born and raised in Hagerstown, Doug was one of five children, four of them boys. He would have graduated from Hagerstown High School with the class of 1944. Instead, Doug went into the service in July 1943 and had to miss his senior year of high school.

Mary Jane Elliott Davis, 95, of Woodland Way in Hagerstown, Md., died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home in Maryland. Born Jan. 16, 1918, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Bruce Alexander Elliott and Roberta Virginia Bittinger Elliott. She graduated from Stevens Girls High School in Lancaster, Pa., and Hagerstown High School in 1936. After both brothers had enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II, Jane enlisted in the Women's Army Corps in 1943.

June Lorraine Wastler, 85, of 101 Sunflower Drive, Hagerstown, Md., passed away Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, at Julia Manor Health Care Center. Born Friday, June 1, 1928, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Oscar N. Moser and the late Mary E. (Easterday) Moser. She graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1948 and later from Hagerstown Junior College. She was a former member of Longmeadow Church of the Brethren and currently a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Chewsville, Md. One of June's greatest joys was spending time with family and friends, especially around the holidays, when she would cook and prepare wonderful meals for all the family.

Barbara Sowers Thomas of Briarwood Drive, Hagerstown passed away at her home Aug. 19, 2013. Born May 25, 1927, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of Lauran Delk Sowers and Harriet Aline (Harman) Sowers. Barbara graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1945 and obtained a bachelor's degree from Western Maryland College in 1949, where she edited the college yearbook her senior year and was named Best All-Around College Woman. She later earned a master's degree in education from Western Maryland College.

Raymond Russell Wollard Sr., 88, of Hagerstown passed away Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown, surrounded by his loving family. Born Sept. 6, 1924, in Thurmont, Md., he was the son of the late James Franklin Sr. and Daisy Lee (Pleasant) Wollard. He also was preceded in death by a brother, James Franklin Wollard Jr.; and his son-in-law, John Ryder. He was a 1942 graduate of Hagerstown High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.

The Hagerstown High School Class of 1946 celebrated its 67th reunion May 4 at the Elks Lodge on Robinwood Drive. There were 49 classmates and 19 visitors who enjoyed a sit-down luncheon. Classmates came from Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, New York and Florida. A thank you goes out to the reunion committee, including Ruth Glass Bohn, Thelma Middlekauff Mauk, Virginia Shrader Rodgers, Barbara Gibney Freedman, Betty McDonough Schindel, Marie Snyder Stover and Janice Shiffler Rice, who died Aug. 15. The class enjoyed getting together, renewing friendships and spending time with each other.

Rosemary Dilworth Huff, 83, of Hagerstown, Md., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore. Born July 29, 1930, in Washington County, Md., she was the daughter of the late Luther Dilworth and Bertha Dilworth Warrenfeltz Geist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Huff Sr., who died July 23, 1983. She attended Hagerstown High School. She was a golden member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Elizabeth Cromer Keefer, 91, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at her home. Born Nov. 14, 1921, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Charles Ellis and Mary Blanche (Cole) Cromer. Keefer was a 1939 graduate of Hagerstown High School. She was a member of Zion Reformed Church, and retired as a bookkeeper with Saum's Jewelers, both of Hagerstown. She is survived by one son, Frederick F. Keefer III of Hagerstown. In addition to her parents, she also was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick F. Keefer Jr. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Dean Pryor, hospice chaplain, officiating.
