Mail Call for 4/18 "To those people who keep wondering what spiral ham is. It is nothing new, it is something that has been around for years. It is the same price as regular ham. The only thing difference is, it is cut in a spiral. When you pick it up, it opens up like a spring. It is not any more expensive than any other type of ham you buy. " "To Kathy, who was in the accident on April 6 at Nottingham and West Washington. The black boxes that you see on top of the traffic lights are not cameras, they are for the emergency vehicles, so they can get through a green light.

"It's high time a traffic light was installed at the intersection of Stotler Road and Halfway Boulevard. We are told that the tractor-trailers coming up the hill cannot stop at a light because of a loss of momentum. Sheer baloney. The people exiting Lakeside Park are taking their lives in their hands every time they try to go east or west with trailer drivers too lazy to change gears. " - Hagerstown "I have mixed feelings about the speed cameras, but I have made up my mind I will try and pressure our elected officials into OK'ing use of speed cameras, especially in school areas.

There might be only one thing stronger than Amaurys Fermin's move to the basket. It's his word. Hagerstown Community College men's basketball coach Earl Redden got all the proof he needed of Fermin's convictions on Wednesday. "He told me before the season that he would not let us lose," Redden said. No hot air here. Fermin was true to his syllables when he used the final possession of the game to put up the winning layup as time expired to help the Hawks pull out an 81-79 victory over Frederick Community College at the HCC athletic complex.

Mo Sallah probably thought he would never be a difference-maker in his first year of organized basketball. He has become a fast learner, and on Thursday night he was all the difference in the world for Broadfording Christian Academy. The 6-foot-7 sophomore, who hails from the Republic of The Gambia in West Africa, had a double-double by halftime and ended with a triple-double to lead Broadfording over Clear Spring, 68-57. By halftime, Sallah had 10 points and 10 rebounds and by night’s end he posted a line of 16 points, 15 rebounds and 12 blocked shots.

“As a Washington County BOE teacher, I’m responding to the calls saying 17 of the county schools have received failing grades for performance. We as teachers can only do so much. We can’t make your child do the work. We send it home; you’re supposed to check up and make sure stuff’s done. Education begins at home first. Don’t blame the teachers for you not helping with the problem.” — Hagerstown “PETA should worry more about going to court and seeing that these dog killers and animal cruelty people get a stiff sentence instead of slap on the wrist.
