GREAT CACAPON, W.Va. - Police are investigating an accident in which a Great Cacapon man was killed on Saturday, according the Morgan County Sheriff's Department. Dwight Arthur Mechem, 20, apparently was lying on W.Va. 9 outside of Great Cacapon when he was struck by a car driven by James Edward Youngblood Jr., age unavailable, of Great Cacapon, according to Chief Deputy Ronald McIntire. An autopsy is being performed to determine the cause of death, McIntire said. Youngblood has not been cited, he said.

GREAT CACAPON, W.Va. - Marijuana plants with a street value of about $500,000 were found Saturday morning in a home in Great Cacapon, according to the Morgan County Sheriff's Department. The plants were discovered when the sheriff's department responded to the home for a reported suicide, police said. Vince Shambaugh, chief deputy of the Morgan County Sheriff's Department, said 270 marijuana plants were found in the home. The plants were being grown under grow lights, Shambaugh said.

SEPT. 22, 1932-MARCH 7, 2009 GREAT CACAPON, W.Va. - Raymond Ashby "Sneaky" Gloyd, 76, of Great Cacapon, died Saturday, March 7, 2009, at Winchester (Va.) Medical Center. Born Sept. 22, 1932, in Great Cacapon, he was the son of the late Adam Kaylor and Alice Virginia Farris Gloyd. He attended Road Ridge School, Great Cacapon. He owned and operated Gloyd's Sawmill and Timber Operations in Great Cacapon. He was a Protestant. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bernice Lee Virginia "Mouse" Farris Gloyd; two sons, L. Keith Gloyd of Warfordsburg, Pa., and Randy W. Gloyd of Great Cacapon; two sisters, Rosie Spielman of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

Born March 14, 1915, in Cold Run Valley, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William Underwood and Martha Irene Henry Hovermale. She was a Christian. She attended the Valley School in Cold Run Valley and worked seasonally at Milton Michael's Canning Factory. She was a member of AARP and had worked at the Interwoven Hosiery Mill in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Jesse Louise (Widmyer) Hunter, 99, of Great Cacapon, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2013. Jessie was the wife of the late William Henry Hunter, whom she married in 1938. She was born Oct. 11, 1913, the daughter of the late Carol G. and Bertha Waugh Widmyer. Educated in the local school district, she went on to attend Shepherd College, Shippensburg College and West Virginia University. She was the past president of the United Women of Trinity Asbury Church, president of the junior and senior Woman's Clubs, Morgan County Historical and Genealogical Society, and Region II Reading Council.

Virginia L. Seely, 90, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013. Born March 26, 1922, in Great Cacapon, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Lace Smith "Pete" Holliday and Elmer Florence Dawson Holliday. She was the owner and operator of Jenny's Beauty Salon from 1959 to 1970. Tom and Virginia owned and operated the original Tom Seely Pine Furniture. Virginia and Tom together created the Tom & Virginia Seely Foundation to serve the children and their families of Morgan County.
