GREAT CACAPON, W.Va. - Police are investigating an accident in which a Great Cacapon man was killed on Saturday, according the Morgan County Sheriff's Department. Dwight Arthur Mechem, 20, apparently was lying on W.Va. 9 outside of Great Cacapon when he was struck by a car driven by James Edward Youngblood Jr., age unavailable, of Great Cacapon, according to Chief Deputy Ronald McIntire. An autopsy is being performed to determine the cause of death, McIntire said. Youngblood has not been cited, he said.

GREAT CACAPON, W.Va. - Marijuana plants with a street value of about $500,000 were found Saturday morning in a home in Great Cacapon, according to the Morgan County Sheriff's Department. The plants were discovered when the sheriff's department responded to the home for a reported suicide, police said. Vince Shambaugh, chief deputy of the Morgan County Sheriff's Department, said 270 marijuana plants were found in the home. The plants were being grown under grow lights, Shambaugh said.

Born Sept. 22, 1932, in Great Cacapon, he was the son of the late Adam Kaylor and Alice Virginia Farris Gloyd. He attended Road Ridge School, Great Cacapon. He owned and operated Gloyd's Sawmill and Timber Operations in Great Cacapon. He was a Protestant. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bernice Lee Virginia "Mouse" Farris Gloyd; two sons, L. Keith Gloyd of Warfordsburg, Pa., and Randy W. Gloyd of Great Cacapon; two sisters, Rosie Spielman of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
