Seems to me if the Chevy folks would spend as much time making their cars faster as they do whining about how Fords have an unfair advantage, we might be treated to a competitive NASCAR race sometime this season. Not that I'm trying to start anything. But seriously, the finish at Daytona looked like a Ford Motor Co. assembly plant, with one Ford after another rolling across the line with nary a bow tie in sight. To the GM folks, this sight was as sacrilegious as it would be for a Muslim to see a Hindu charming a cobra on the Dome of the Rock.

Similar to the United Way's annual Day of Caring, a Christian workcamp is planned for part of Washington County next June to help those in need with home improvements, according to a presentation Pat Martin made to Funkstown officials on Monday night. Trinity Lutheran Church in Smithsburg and GroupCares, of Loveland, Colo., are co-sponsoring the June 16-22, 2013, event with the goal to perform repairs and maintenance on 60 to 80 homes that are within a 30-minute drive of Smithsburg.

See what else Tim has to say With all of the electronics in our lives today, an urgent, repetitive beeping sound is, sadly, nothing out of the ordinary. Walking toward the house the other day, I kept hearing one, but a check of all cell phones, laptops and sundry gizmos revealed nothing. I couldn't figure it out until I walked through the door and discovered the sound coming from the smoke detector.

LEETOWN, W.Va. - Three people who were inside a home off Sulphur Springs Road when it caught fire Wednesday afternoon escaped the house, although one man in the house had to be dragged out, a fire official said. That man suffered some burns and chest pains, although everyone in the house was OK later in the day, according to Ed Smith, chief of the Independent Fire Co. The 3:32 p.m. fire in the home at 280 Egypt Road started as a result of a grease fire on a stove, Smith said.

BOONSBORO -- Three Boonsboro residents who live along North Main Street have experienced raw sewage backing up into their homes, and town officials said an engineer's report traced a March 7 backup in two of the houses to a nearby Weis Markets store. Kevin Chambers, chairman of the Boonsboro Municipal Utilities Commission, said Tuesday that one of the residents experienced sewage backups four times, another resident experienced backups twice and a third resident experienced at least one backup.

WAYNESBORO, Pa. -- Firefighters from several Franklin County departments responded to a kitchen fire at 190 Cleveland Ave. at 4 p.m. Monday. The grease fire was contained to the kitchen in the apartment in which it started. A family of four was staying with relatives due to fire, smoke and water damage, Waynesboro Fire Chief Dave Martin said.

18 to 20 small red potatoes, washed and unpeeled 3 tablespoons olive or vegetable oil 1/4 cup finely chopped green onions 2 teaspoons crushed, diced rosemary leaves (fresh or dried) Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease a 13-inch-by-9-inch-by-2-inch baking pan. Place potatoes in pan, drizzle with oil and stir to coat. Sprinkle with green onions and rosemary and stir. Bake uncovered, stirring occasionally, for about an hour or until skins are crispy and potatoes are tender.

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - A grease fire damaged a kitchen in a home in the Belvedere Heights subdivision Friday afternoon, according to a fire official. The fire was contained to the kitchen, but there was smoke and heat damage throughout the house, which is being rented by Chuck Carper, according to Citizens Fire Co. Lt. Steve Anderson. The house is owned by William Jordan. There were no injuries, although firefighters had to administer oxygen to three cats and a dog, Anderson said.

1 cup light corn syrup 1 cup sugar 1 cup Nutella (chocolate-hazelnut spread) 6 cups crisp rice cereal Lightly grease a 9-by-13-inch pan. In a Dutch oven over medium heat, cook the corn syrup, sugar and Nutella, stirring often until the sugar is melted. Remove from the heat and add the cereal. Toss well, coating all of the cereal.
