Held-Cole Charlie and Cindy Held of Hagerstown wish to announce the engagement of their daughter, Melissa Ann Held, to Andrew Earhart Cole, son of Tony and Billie Jo Cole of Sterling, Va. Ms. Held is a 1995 graduate of Boonsboro High School and a 1999 graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She is employed as a health and fitness instructor with The National Institute for Fitness and Sport in Indianapolis. Mr. Cole is a 1995 graduate of Broad Run High School and a 1999 graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

HAGERSTOWN Avery Carey last played basketball at George Mason University in 1999. But the Hagerstown resident feels very much a part of the Patriots' miraculous run to this weekend's Final Four in Indianapolis. Carey, 29, is feeling a sense of pride about his school's march through the first four rounds of the men's NCAA Tournament. He's been showing it this week by wearing the green and gold school colors. "I feel like I'm a founding father," Carey said. "This is just great for the university ... to get to the Final Four in its fourth appearance in the tournament.

Haugh-Krill Marianne Krill and Jeremy Allen Haugh were married Saturday, July 18, 1998, at Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. The bride is the daughter of Mary and Stephen Krill of Wilkes-Barre. The bridegroom is the son of Donna and Anthony Haugh of Waynesboro, Pa. The bride is a 1990 graduate of James M. Coughlin High School in Wilkes-Barre and a 1994 graduate of Millersville University. She will complete her master's degree at Hood College in May. She is a technology education teacher at Frederick High School in Frederick, Md. The bridegroom is a 1991 graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School and a 1995 graduate of Millersville University.

Crabtree-Leach Heather Elaine Leach and James Frederick Crabtree were married Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, at St. Ann Catholic Church. The bride is the daughter of Connie and Brian Leach of Hagerstown. The bridegroom is the son of Shary and Rick Crabtree of Leesburg, Va. The bride is a 1991 graduate of North Hagerstown High School and a 1995 graduate of George Mason University with a bachelor of science degree in accounting. She is employed as a certified public accountant with Amdahl Federal Service Corp.

Avery Carey considers himself fortunate. He is pretty happy with his life and enjoys what he's doing. He also remembers who helped him along the way. Outside of family and friends, there are two names Carey would probably single out as the biggest influences in his post-Hagerstown Community College career. George Mason and Jim Larranaga. The first is the school - George Mason University - that Carey attended after graduating from HCC in 1996. The second is the then-first-year basketball coach who took over in 1997 and incorporated Carey into his system.

McClanahan-Jones Treysa Dorice McClanahan and Travis Allan Jones, both of Fort Worth, Texas, announce their engagement. Ms. McClanahan is the daughter of James and Arlynda McClanahan of Hillsboro, Texas. Mr. Jones is the son of Bill and Pat "Trish" Myers-Jones of North Richland Hills, Texas, and formerly of Williamsport. Ms. McClanahan is a graduate of Haltom High School. She is employed as a senior specialist at Sprint in Fort Worth. Mr. Jones is a graduate of Haltom High School.

FAIRFAX, Va. - Hagerstown Community College freshman Tony Clement finished sixth in the 3,000-meter run at George Mason University's Patriot Games. Clement finished in 8 minutes, 42.73 seconds. Williamsport graduate Matt Rouse ran a personal best in the mile for McDaniel College, clocking 4:30.69. He placed 11th overall and first among Division III runners.
