Local man dies following car crash FREDERICK, Md. - A Smithsburg man who was thought to have had minor injuries in a car accident early Wednesday died later at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Maryland State Police in Frederick said. Michael Fister, 28, was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital by a relative for treatment of "what appeared to be minor injuries," police said. Fister was driving his pickup truck on Md. 77 near Stotlemyer Road at 6 a.m. Wednesday and was passing another vehicle when the pickup ran off the road and hit a tree, police said.

BURKITTSVILLE, Md. - A Frederick County, Md., man died after being hit in the head by a tree he was moving with a bulldozer Sunday morning, Maryland State Police in Frederick said. Charles Augustus Bartholow, 63, of South Jefferson Street was pronounced dead at Frederick Memorial Hospital shortly after the accident, police said. Police said Bartholow was operating a bulldozer at a construction site at 4524 Burkittsville Road around 7:19 a.m. Bartholow was pushing trees and debris with the machine when a tree apparently fell backwards onto the bulldozer, hitting him on the head, police said.

Driver, 20, killed when car hits wall FREDERICK, Md. - A Westminster, Md., man was killed when his 1995 Geo Tracker went off of Md. 26 and struck a stone wall at the entrance to the Ceresville Mansion at 11:34 p.m. Friday. Nathan Andrew Blizzard, 20, was driving eastbound just west of Md. 194, when his car went off the road. He was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital, where he died. Police said Blizzard might have survived if he had been wearing his seat belt.

FREDERICK, Md. - A Frederick man died after his motorcycle crashed into a tree Wednesday in the 1100 block of Key Parkway, the Frederick Police Department said. Police said Juan Armando Martinez, 26, of Key Parkway in Frederick, lost control of the motorcycle while traveling east and struck a tree at about 4:52 p.m. Martinez was pronounced dead at Frederick Memorial Hospital, according to police. The investigation is continuing, police said.

Carla Clipp, 68, of Frederick, Md., passed away Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be at John T. Williams Funeral Home in Brunswick, Md., Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and two hours before the service Saturday, which will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick, Md.

Mt. Airy boy, 5, drowns in pond at Mother's Day picnic MT. AIRY, Md. - A 5-year-old Mt. Airy boy was pronounced dead at Frederick Memorial Hospital late Sunday after he wandered away from a Mother's Day picnic and apparently drowned in a pond, according to the Frederick County Sheriff's Office. Dustin Taylor Kroft, of the 5000 block of Western View Place, had been playing with family and friends at a home in the 13000 block of Old Annapolis Road shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday when he wandered off, the sheriff's office reported.

Jack Molesworth, a former football coach at Frederick and Thomas Johnson high schools and McDaniel College, died Friday at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was 80. Molesworth also was the executive director of the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association from 1971 to 1981 and the state's supervisor of physical education from 1971 to 1978. The family will receive friends today from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Keeney and Basford P.A. Funeral Home in Frederick. Funeral services are Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church in Frederick.

Westbound Interstate 70 near Frederick was closed for about 10 hours following a tractor-trailer rollover that occurred Wednesday night, Maryland State Police said. A tractor-trailer carrying fertilizer overturned on the ramp at 8:55 p.m. Wednesday, state police said in a news release.  The driver and the passenger in the tractor-trailer were taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital, the release said. Westbound I-70 was closed until shortly after 7 a.m. Thursday, when one lane reopened.

Clarence "Tommy" F. Grams, 80, of Frederick, Md., passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Valeria Grams. Born Sept. 3, 1932 in Washington County, Md., he was the son of the late Thomas Franklin and Madeline Springer Grams. Mr. Grams was a graduate of Middletown High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Tommy enjoyed baseball, traveling, gospel and bluegrass music. He sang in the Parkway Church of God choir, and was active in scouting Troop 274. He worked at American Optical, Roterex, Airpax, and the Frederick board of education.

Mr. Irvin F. Stride, 97, of Frederick, Md., died Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.  Born Dec. 2, 1915, in Frederick, he was the son of the late Irvin G. and Grace E. Stottlemyer Stride. He was the loving husband of Eva M. Young Stride. Mr. Stride enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Sharon Stride Poole of Boonsboro, Md., Marty Stride of Thurmont, Md., and Kenneth Stride of New York; stepdaughter, Jean Boone of Libertytown, Md.; grandchildren, Donald Dick, Jeffrey Dick and John Stride; great-grandchildren, Jacob Dick and Elizabeth Dick; and five stepgrandchildren.  He was preceded in death by daughter, Eileen Stride Vetiello; one stepgrandchild; as well as two brothers, Richard N. Stride and Robert M. Stride.

Mae T. Hebb, 95, of Frederick, Md., and formerly of Sharpsburg, Md., passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2012, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick. She was born April 14, 1917, in Antietam, Md., to the late Benjamin Franklin and Cora Lucinda Pierce Hutson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Henry "Ted" Hebb Sr. in 1999. She was a 1935 graduate of Boonsboro High School. She was employed by L'Aiglon of Hagerstown, and London Fog of Boonsboro until retiring in 1982.

Mrs. Anna Mildred Bennett, 91, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late John W. Bennett, who passed away on Jan. 18, 2007. Born on Aug. 8, 1920, in Little Washington, Va., she was the daughter of the late Millard Jones and Goldie Dodson. Mrs. Bennett loved her family dearly. She made an impact on everyone who knew her. She enjoyed cooking and gardening more before her illness. She especially enjoyed taking care of her dog Coco.

Mr. John Clyde “Jack” Douglas, 84, of Frederick, died Saturday, July 9, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of B. Jane Shadrock Douglas of Frederick.    Born Jan. 9, 1927, in Pittsburgh, Pa., he was a son of the late Harry Clyde and Mildred Routzahn. He served in the Army in World War II. Mr. Douglas graduated from Frederick High School, class of 1945.  He was associated for 31 years with the automobile industry, working for dealers in Frederick and Montgomery counties.

A Taneytown, Md., woman died following a head-on car collision along Md. 194 at Legore Road Sunday afternoon, according to Maryland State Police. Nellie R. Baumgardner, 86, died at Frederick Memorial Hospital following the 4:38 p.m. crash, state police said. Baumgardner died after a 2003 Ford Focus being driven by Susan Baumgardner of Taneytown crossed a yellow double line and struck a Toyota Corolla being driven by Katlyn Appler of Hanover, Pa., state police said. Susan Baumgardner was flown to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with serious injuries, state police said.

JUNE 25, 1940-APRIL 5, 2011 Mr. Ronald Francis "Ronnie" Kefauver Sr., 70, of Middletown, died suddenly Tuesday, April 5, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Gloria Stockman Kefauver. Born in Waynesboro, Pa., on June 25, 1940, he was raised by his grandparents, John and Mary Kefauver. He was employed by the Model Garage in Middletown for 19 years and retired after 22 years with the Frederick County Board of Education. He was a life member of the Middletown Volunteer Fire Co., where he attained the rank of sergeant and lieutenant.

A Baltimore man died after the truck he was driving west on Interstate 70 at Md. 75 crashed Monday morning, according to Maryland State Police. Elmer Smith, 41, was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead, state police said. A malfunction in the front driver’s side tire caused Smith to lose control of a  westbound 1996 Peterbilt, state police said. The truck rolled over, slid into a guardrail on the left shoulder and Smith was thrown from the truck, state police said.

Three people were injured Monday night in a head-on crash on U.S. 340 at Keep Tryst Road, Maryland State Police said in a news release. At about 8:48 p.m., according to police, a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by Ricky Ritchie of Broadway, Va., entered U.S. 340 traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes. At Keep Tryst Road, the Eclipse struck a 2004 Toyota van driven by Jose Rivas of Germantown, Md. Rivas and his wife, Maria Rivas, were trapped in their vehicle following the crash.
