Garbage collection in Williamsport If you live in the Town of Williamsport and have the garbage collection fee on your water bill, please set out your trash on the regular weeknight - Thursday (Dec. 25 and Jan. 1). The only time it changes is if the holiday falls on Friday. This will be a good time to get rid of all that Christmas wrappings. Old-fashioned Christmas Thank you, town merchants, for sponsoring an Old Fashioned Christmas on Saturday evening. The event was great complete with a horse-drawn sleigh, caroling, storytelling, lantern walks and decorating a beautiful tree.

INWOOD, W.Va. -- Dudley Brown thought he accomplished something when he managed to join the U.S. Navy when he was two years shy of the minimum age required to enlist. "I thought it was hot stuff being in the service at 15," Brown said Tuesday. "Got back out of the service and joined an outfit called the VUMS (Veterans of Underage Military Service) ... and they had three, thick volumes of books of all the underage in the service and there was a lot of 12-year-olds in there -- 12-year-olds -- so that doesn't make you too hot," he said laughing.

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. -- He's the last one in America who can tell stories about his experiences during World War I. And he lives just outside of Charles Town. Frank Woodruff Buckles became the last living American veteran of the First World War this year, and his family is busy keeping track of his schedule as he grants interviews and makes appearances. The 107-year-old veteran was honored 10 days ago during ceremonies in Washington, D.C. He visited with President Bush at the White House and a photographic portrait of Buckles was unveiled at the Pentagon.

TRI-STATE - Charlotte Winters clasped a black-and-white photograph Friday on her 109th birthday, trying to place herself among the women of World War I pictured, perhaps not realizing she's the only one left. "We were in the Navy ... Look at us," Winters, who was dressed in her patriotic, birthday best, said slowly. "There will never be another picture like that. " Fahrney-Keedy Memorial Home's oldest resident sat in her wheelchair on Friday and smiled for the cameras that rolled and flashed for her. Winters is the last known living female World War I veteran, and one of 12 known remaining WWI veterans living in the United States, the Scripps Howard News Service has reported.
