Air National Guard Airman 1st Class A. Fraker, daughter of Daniel Fraker of Hagerstown, and Tammy Fraker of Williamsport, has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Fraker is a 2001 graduate of Broadfording Christian Academy, Hagerstown. Army Pvt. Brandon S. Orem, son of Brenda Obitts of Williamsport, has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. Orem is a 2003 graduate of Washington County Technical High School, Hagerstown.

Army Pvt. Gregory C. Harbaugh Jr., son of Gregory L. Harbaugh Sr. of Greencastle, Pa., graduated from One Station Unit Training at the U.S. Army Infantry School, Fort Benning, Ga. The training combines basic military training and advanced individual training. Army Pvt. Domonic L. Woodring, son of Ralph E. and Mary E. Woodring of Greencastle, Pa., graduated from basic combat training at Fort Knox, Ky.

Brandon M. Knight, son of Mark and Christy Eyler Knight of Smithsburg, and brother of Karah Knight, enlisted in the U.S. Army and was assigned on Oct. 13, to Fort Benning, Ga., home of the U.S. Army Infantry Training Center. After 14 weeks of basic combat and Advanced Individual Training, he graduated Feb. 11 from the U.S. Army Infantry training school, Bravo Co., 2nd Platoon, 2nd Battalion, 54th Infantry Regiment. On Feb. 10, in a ceremony known as "Turning Blue," Knight was awarded the U.S. Army Infantryman Blue Shoulder Cord and awarded the Expert Rifle Qualification Badge.

Kevin R. Jaye , son of Kenneth Jaye, sister of Megan Jaye, and son of Karen Barnett, enlisted in the U.S. Army and was assigned Oct. 8 to Fort Benning, Ga., home of the U.S. Army Infantry Training Center. After 14 weeks of basic training, he graduated Feb. 3 from the U.S. Army Infantry training school, Charlie Co., 2nd platoon, 19th Battalion, 198th Infantry Regiment. On Feb. 4, in a ceremony known as "Turning Blue," Jaye was awarded the U.S. Infantry – Man Blue Shoulder Cord.

Air Force Airman Donald B. Howerton II, son of Donald Howerton I of Boonsboro, graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio. Howerton graduated in 2010 from Boonsboro High School. Army Pvt. Cameron J. Allen, son of Cathy Allen of Hagerstown, graduated from the Infantryman One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. The training consists of Basic Infantry Training and Advanced Individual Training. Allen is a 2008 graduate of South Hagerstown High School.

Lt. Col. William T. Viar, son of Judy Haines and the late William C. Viar, graduated from Williamsport High School in June 1988. He entered Virginia Military Institute in August 1988 to earn a four-year degree. He graduated from VMI as a nuclear physicist in May 1992. He was assigned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army at Fort Benning, Ga., as an intelligence officer for one year. He was then transferred to Fort Stewart, Ga., for three years and at that point he was promoted to captain.
