The Smithsburg wrestling team took advantage of a short-handed Walkersville squad and cruised to a 66-18 victory Saturday afternoon. A total of six bouts were contested - all of which ended in pins. Walkersville was forced to forfeit eight matches. “A win is a win,” said Smithsburg coach Joe Dietrich, whose team improved to 6-10. “(Walkersville) had a lot of open spaces, but we'll take it.” The Lions (3-10) took an early 6-0 lead when Ty Tucker pinned Smithsburg's Saul Hererra in the 285-pound weight class, but three consecutive forfeits by Walkersville gave Smithsburg an 18-6 lead.

Members of the Smithsburg wrestling team will say this one match didn't mean wany more than any other match. Even so, it was “gettin' even” time. And the Leopards didn't waste the opportunity. Smithsburg held its own and used five forfeit wins in a 48-35 MVAL Antietam victory over host Boonsboro to earn a measure of revenge on Saturday during the final segment of a tri-match, which included Manchester Valley. Manchester Valley swept the Washington County teams, defeating Smithsburg 46-30 and Boonsboro 57-18.

Everything looked easy for the Waynesboro Indians on Thursday night. And for the most part, it was as they took down the Greencastle-Antrim Blue Devils 48-31 in a Mid-Penn Colonial wrestling clash. The two teams have had contrasting years, and the Blue Devils (0-4, 0-4) were not able to match up against a superior Waynesboro (6-3, 3-1) squad. The Blue Devils started off the night in good fashion in the 113-pound weight class. Greencastle's Cody Carbaugh was able to work over Waynesboro's John Atkinson for a first-period pin, giving the Blue Devils an early 6-0 lead.
