Orange and red are in style this season, including together, according to one of the mistresses of ceremonies for Sunday's Fashion in the Know show at Fountain Head Country Club. Women modeled fashions from Lena's of Hagerstown and Aspire, a women's clothing boutique in Frederick, Md. In addition to clothes, handbags and jewelry were highlighted. “Love both of the boutiques,” said Kathy Tierney, who sat at one of the back tables watching the models strut on the runway before walking through the crowd of tables.

Engaged on Dec. 7, Kayla Pownall and Cody Frankenberry attended The Herald-Mail's 2013 Bridal & Prom Expo at Valley Mall on Sunday to get some ideas for their September 2014 wedding. Among the items the couple wanted to check out were cakes and dresses, said Frankenberry, 25. The Martinsburg, W.Va., couple arrived at the mall in time to catch the end of the first of two fashion shows on a stage in front of Bon-Ton. Several women modeled wedding gowns, mother-of-the-bride dresses and prom dresses, while men modeled tuxedos.

Hagerstown Community College's Black Student Union will host its third annual fashion show Saturday, Feb. 2, beginning at 7 p.m., at Kepler Center on HCC's main campus. The show will feature student models displaying a variety of clothing styles, including casual, career, sportswear, and formal wear. Vendors include Déjà Vu Boutique, JC Penney, Jos. A. Bank, Deb, Rue 21, Kasper, Reebok, Jones New York, Wilsons Leather, and the HCC Campus Store. Musicians Beyonka Marie, Iron Lion, and Spence will perform.

Western Enterprise helps others for holidays The Western Enterprise Fire Co. supplied nine cases of hams to The Salvation Army for its Christmas dinner this past holiday season. Along with the Ladies Auxiliary, Western Enterprise also donated funds to Holly Place to provide the requested cleaning supplies and paper products from its wish list. To show appreciation for all the extra efforts they contribute throughout the school year, the Ladies Auxiliary hosted a holiday luncheon for the nonteaching staff at Winter Street Elementary School.

JoAnna Torbolli got engaged in October and has been planning her wedding “off and on since then.” On Sunday, Torbolli and her cousin, Autumn Harnish, both of Boonsboro, used the Live Wedding Expo at Hager Hall Conference and Event Center as a way to get some ideas for the special day, tentatively planned for June 2014. “You can get cards. You can collect information. You can get ideas,” Torbolli said. “It's all very helpful and it's in a really nice facility.” With about 15 local vendors on hand, the first-ever event at Hager Hall drew 150 to 175 brides-to-be, plus another 180 people who attended a wedding that took place at about 3 p.m., according to Cynthia Fowler, banquet manager for Hager Hall.

Tea, fashion show to benefit animal shelter CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter will host Second Hand Rose Tea and Fashion Show from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at the thrift store, 66 S. Main St. Tickets cost $15, and only 50 seats will be available. Proceeds will benefit the shelter's Rallying to Relocate Capital Campaign. The fashion show will include clothing available for purchase at the thrift store, and shelter dogs will model outfits.

LouEllen "Ellen" Winship, 86, of Washington, D.C., currently residing at 7 Maple Ave., Boonsboro, Md., passed away peacefully, Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, at Fahrney-Keedy Home and Village. She was born Wednesday, June 23, 1926, in Washington, D.C. She held several master's degrees, including degrees in biology, business and accounting. She was employed with the federal government, retiring after 40 years of service. She served on numerous community boards and coordinated many special events, including a fashion show in Korea during the '70s for international dignitaries, that portrayed the fashion of all the former first ladies of the United States.
