Relax, folks, evolution is only a theory To the editor: Why - I am asking - why all the fuss about evolution? Why is the theory of evolution such a big deal in the eyes of some? Why are the supporters of evolution called names like "Darwiniacs"? Why does the theory of evolution evoke such crude sentiments of hostility? There is no need for that. Evolution is just another scientific theory! No more and no less. No different than the theories of gravity, electromagnetism, or thermodynamics.

Richard Dawkins, the brilliant and honored British biologist, has written another superb piece of literature. A much respected Fellow of the Royal Society (Science) and of Royal Society of Literature, he has just published, "The Greatest Show On Earth: The Evidence For Evolution. " This is a formidable masterpiece - a virtual library of up-to-date, reliable information about the multiple sciences that support the Darwinian (and post-Darwinian) account of evolution. There is no longer any excuse for being uninformed or misinformed about the subject of evolution.

The April 9 announcement of the discovery of partial skeletons of a 9-year-old boy and a female about 30 years of age in South Africa was another confirmation of evolution. These fossil bones, estimated to be about 2 million years of age, also support the "out of Africa" predictions as the birthplace of pre-human primates leading to human beings. Many who are interested in the development of evolutionary thought are aware that Darwin published "The Origin Of Species" in 1859.
