North Locust Street will be closed at 6:30 a.m. today between Washington Street and Broadway as part of Hagerstown's street resurfacing project, according to the City Engineering Department. Motorists will have to take a detour around the construction. The work is expected to last until 5 p.m.

Traffic alley closed Monday An alley in downtown Hagerstown just north of the post office and off Jonathan Street will be closed to traffic beginning at 7:30 a.m. Monday, the City Engineering Department announced. The closure will probably last two weeks while workers replace a storm drain pipe that has collapsed.

The alley between the first block of East Franklin Street and East Avenue in downtown Hagerstown is temporarily closed for construction, according to the city engineering department. Traffic can access the Cramer Alley entrance to the Department of Social Services on North Potomac Street by entering from East Avenue.

Due to the replacement of the sanitary sewer, Pangborn Boulevard between Pangborn Corp. and View Street in Hagerstown will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, according to a statement from the City Engineering Department. Access to local residences and businesses will be maintained, according to the statement.

New stop signs have been installed at an intersection near the new Centre at Hagerstown shopping plaza, according to the Hagerstown Engineering Department. The signs are for traffic heading east on Broadfording Road and west on Hollyhock Road. The signs are at the intersection of Broadfording Road, Hollyhock Road and the new Garland Groh Boulevard. Weather permitting, clean up and paving work will be done on East Franklin Street in Hagerstown this weekend, according to the city Engineering Department.

Work will interrupt traffic on several streets in Hagerstown today and on Monday, according to the city's Engineering Department. New traffic signal construction will close North Potomac Street to through traffic at North Street today from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A detour will be posted and local access will be maintained. On Monday starting at 7 a.m., Columbia Gas will replace a cracked gas line and restore pavement on South Burhans Boulevard between Wesel Boulevard and Chase Street.

The Greensburg Road Bridge near Smithsburg, which had been closed since June 14, reopened Tuesday at 2 p.m. The bridge over Antietam Creek is near the Greensburg Road and Fruit Tree Drive intersection. The $143,000 project included a deck replacement and construction of a support wall, Melissa Yates, project manager for Washington County's Engineering Department, said Tuesday. Building Systems Inc. of Hagerstown performed the repairs.
