-JULY 16, 2007 WAYNESBORO, Pa. - G. Elwood Fry, 92, of Waynesboro, died Monday, July 16, 2007, at his home. Born in Pine Grove Mills, Pa., he was the son of the late George B. and Sarah Maudra Corl Fry. He was a 1931 graduate of State College High School. He owned and operated the Men's Store in Waynesboro for 10 years. He was a member of Waynesboro Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder. He was a member of BPO Elks 731, Waynesboro Fish and Game Association, member and past president of Waynesboro Shrine Club (now known as Franklin County (Pa.)

Clear Spring freshman Michael Riley has ice water running through his veins. Riley led Clear Spring with 19 points  - including 13 in the fourth quarter - as the Blazers came from behind to down Berkeley Springs 65-52 on Monday night. Clear Spring trailed 43-42 heading into the fourth quarter when Riley scored 10 straight points with four straight buckets to push the Blazers (6-11) to the victory. “When I hit the first 3-pointer, it felt real good,” said Riley. “Spencer and Collin (Schultz)

waynesboro@herald-mail.com GREENCASTLE, Pa. - In 1976, Elwood and Viola Wingert and their four children decided it was time to sell the family dairy farm and follow their destiny: To go out and sing the gospel. They bought an old bus and took to the road as the Wingert Family Singer, singing their brand of gospel music at churches, weddings, funerals, retirement centers, schools, barbecues, carnivals, fairs, prisons and eventually radio and television. They've recorded nearly a dozen albums on CDs and cassettes.

Carlton May Sr., 93 SEPT. 14, 1915-DEC. 4, 2008 MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Carlton "Judd" May Sr., 93, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Born Sept. 14, 1915, in Berkeley County, he was the son of the late James Robert May and Ethel Irene Prather May. He was the owner of the Airport Caf. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army. He was a member of Berkeley Post 14, American Legion and VFW Post 896 in Martinsburg.

Virginia (Ginger) Louise Pearman Needy, 65, of Hagerstown, Md., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center. Born Feb. 18, 1946, she was the daughter of Elwood and Annabelle Pearman. She was a 1964 graduate of South Hagerstown High School, and a 50-plus-year member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church. Ginger was kind-hearted and very giving. She truly loved all people and life. Through Living Legacy (organ donor services), she was able to save the lives of others.

Ronald E. Mumma, 61, of Mercersburg, Pa., passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at Hershey Medical Center, holding the hand of his wife and best friend, Deb. Born Aug. 30, 1951, in Washington, D.C., he was the only child of the late Elwood (Red) and Margaret (Peggy) Mumma.  He graduated from North Hagerstown High School in 1969. After high school, Ron was proud to serve in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1973. His love of country, and all military personnel who serve it, continued until his last breath.

A Maugansville man who testified 11 years ago that Ronald Harshman told him where he dumped a body claimed in court Thursday that he lied. “You've never spoken to (Harshman) in your life?” an attorney asked. “No, I haven't,” Keith Granlun said. As Harshman's attorney seeks a new trial, he is trying to demonstrate witnesses perjured themselves in July 2001 in exchange for special consideration from the Franklin County (Pa.) District Attorney's office. Harshman was convicted of first-degree murder in the presumed death of Melvin Elwood Snyder, whose body was never found.

Elwood Allen Carpenter Sr., 77, formerly of Woodpoint Avenue, died  Monday, July 2, 2012, in Hagerstown, Md. Born Sept. 13, 1934, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Aden and Alice Harper Carpenter. He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Margaret Louise Carpenter, on Nov. 3, 2000. He was employed with New York Central Iron Works and Maryland Metals. He was a volunteer for many years for the National Little League. He is survived by four sons, David Carpenter Sr. and wife, Joyce, of Hagerstown, Elwood A. Carpenter Jr. and wife, Diane, of Maugansville, Charles E. Carpenter Sr. and wife, Rose, of Hagerstown, and Eddie D. Carpenter and wife, Lori, of Hagerstown; three sisters, Sarah Mason, Julia Brown and Betty Towns all of Hagerstown; three brothers, Stanley Carpenter of Hagerstown, Alvin Carpenter of Marlowe, W.Va., and William Carpenter of Orange Park, Fla.; seven grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
