kauffman@herald-mail.com COLLEGE PARK, MD. - In truth, Williamsport High School's 11th Maryland Class 1A state volleyball title - and third in a row - may have been won during Saturday's team introductions at Ritchie Coliseum. Elkton - making its third state tournament appearance and playing in its first final since 1979 - had to have trembled when the public address announcer noted the Wildcats' 10 previous state titles, 18 state tournament appearances and their attempt at a three-peat.

View all of the photos for purchase! Delmar coach Dwayne Austin drew inspiration from a Nike commercial. He paid a visit to the mound while the Halfway 10-11 All-Stars were rallying in the seventh inning. He looked at pitcher Jimmy Adkins and said three words. "Just throw strikes. " The visit immediately paid dividends. Adkins worked his way out of a bases-loaded situation to preserve Delmar's 7-5 victory over Halfway on Monday in the Maryland State Tournament at West End Little League to take the winners' bracket title and advance to the championship round on Thursday.

kauffman@herald-mail.com COLLEGE PARK, Md. - More than a few high school volleyball players would like to have Sammi Snodderly's off game. As Williamsport's top attacking option - averaging an area-best four kills per game - it's a rare occurrence when Snodderly fails to stuff the stat sheet. Apparently, stats alone don't make her happy. Snodderly had a match-high 11 kills in Saturday's Maryland Class 1A state championship, helping the Wildcats win their third straight title and 11th in school history with a convincing 25-16, 25-15, 25-14 victory over Elkton at Ritchie Coliseum.
