This week Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell used his inaugural speech to offer an olive branch to the state's Republicans and to call for an end to partisan wrangling in the state legislature. His generous words should not lull anyone into believing that the cure for what ails the state budget will be easy. At his swearing-in ceremony Tuesday, Rendell said he understood why the previous administration had dipped into the state's Rainy Day Fund and tapped a number of "one-time" revenue sources to balance the budget.

To the editor: I would like to alert my fellow hunters, sportsmen and women, and gun owners of a possible crisis. The former mayor of Philadelphia, Ed Rendell, is mounting a serious challenge to Attorney General Mike Fisher in the race to become the next governor of this great commonwealth. Rendell is on record for limiting the number of guns that can be legally purchased by law abiding citizens. In fact, in an article that appeared in the Philadelphia Daily News in June of this year, Rendell said that he didn't believe instances where guns even used in self defense even occurred.
