Heritage Academy rolled into Grace Academy on Tuesday with thoughts of successfully starting the Mason Dixon Christian Conference season. The Eagles' boys and girls basketball teams delivered in convincing fashion as the boys scored a 52-36 victory and girls notched a 69-21 win. The Heritage boys trailed Grace (0-1, 0-1) early 15-12, thanks mainly to Peter Hykes hitting three of his four 3s in the game. Grace extended the lead to 22-12 with a 7-0 run to start off the second quarter before Heritage found its rhythm.

That's because the Flying Eagles saw too much of one on Friday in Martinsburg. Martinsburg tailback Chris Perkins gave Woodrow Wilson a steady diet of offense as he rushed for 136 yards and scored four touchdowns to lead the top-ranked and undefeted Bulldogs to a 49-13 victory in the opening round of the West Virginia Class AAA state playoffs at Cobourn Field.
