A Middletown, Md., man was flown to the hospital after the car he was driving was struck by a dump truck and a tractor-trailer Tuesday morning on Interstate 70 at South Mountain, Maryland State Police said. Mark Jason Williams, of the 8000 block of Reno Monument Road in Middletown, was flown to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Medical Center in Baltimore to be treated for his injuries, according to a state police news release. His condition was unavailable Tuesday afternoon. Troopers said Williams was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt east on a three-lane stretch of Interstate 70 at about 10 a.m., when a gray pickup truck traveling in the middle lane moved left toward Williams' vehicle.

JEFFERSON, Md. -- A passenger in a car that collided with a dump truck Wednesday near Jefferson has died, Maryland State Police said this morning. The crash occurred at 3:28 p.m. at the intersection of Md. 180 (Jefferson Pike) and Holter Road, police said. A black Honda Civic headed south on Holter Road failed to stop at a red light and continued into the intersection, where it was struck by a State Highway Administration dump truck headed east on Jefferson Pike, police said. The driver of the Honda and her passenger, both female, were flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, police said.

Water, sewer costs to go up in April The cost of water and sewer for Funkstown's customers will go up in April. Town Council members approved a 3.5 percent water rate increase on Monday night. Since the sewer rate is 75 percent of the water rate, sewer costs will go up as well. Water customers have been paying $29.28 per quarter for up to 6,000 gallons of water, Town Clerk Brenda Haynes has said. They pay an additional $4.27 per extra 1,000 gallons of water.

martinsburg@herald-mail.com Three people were killed Wednesday in a crash involving seven vehicles - including a dump truck - on the W.Va. 9 bridge over Opequon Creek near Baker Heights, police said. Cpl. Ronald Gardner of the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department said the victims included two men from the Charles Town, W.Va., area and a woman whose hometown was unknown. The sheriff's department was not releasing the victims' names Wednesday night because their families had not been contacted.

The accident happened around 8:20 a.m. when a Toyota driven by Roya Malott, 43, of Falling Waters, W.Va., stopped on W.Va. 45 before the Opequon Creek bridge, waiting to turn left onto Blairton Road, said West Virginia State Trooper J.D. BLUE RIDGE SUMMIT, Pa. - McCleaf Bus Lines, in partnership with the Blue Ridge Fire and Rescue Squad, will host a meal Sunday to benefit Alyssa Austin, a 3-year-old who was struck by a dump truck in September. The meal will be at the fire hall on Monterey Lane. The slippery beef or ham potpie dinner also includes coleslaw, applesauce, roll, dessert and beverage. Tickets for adults are $8 each. Tickets are $4 for children ages 12 and younger.

Man goes to hospital with gunshot woundThe Hagerstown Police Department reported that a man arrived at Washington County Hospital Friday night with a gunshot wound to the arm, police said. Police still were at the hospital as of 10:45 p.m. No more information was available about the shooting. Information sought in accident on I-81 Maryland State Police are looking for information about an accident Friday afternoon at the Interstate 81 ramp at Halfway Boulevard involving a dump truck that fled the scene.

Five people were injured in a three-vehicle crash on Dual Highway Wednesday morning, according to Maryland State Police. Police said a 1998 dump truck driven by Robert Milburn and a 1994 Ford Mustang driven by Joann Golden had stopped in the right lane around 8:30 a.m. for a school bus that was boarding children. A 1999 Ford pickup truck driven by Joseph Caviness struck the rear of the Mustang, which was rammed into the dump truck in front of it, state police said. Rescue crews had to cut the roof off the Mustang to free Golden, 28, of Hancock, and her passengers Christy Morgan and Michael Morgan.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- A Franklin County woman was killed Tuesday afternoon when the car she was driving collided head-on with a dump truck near Letterkenny Army Depot, Pennsylvania State Police said. Colleen Rae Craig, 33, of Fort Loudon, Pa., was killed in the 4:26 p.m. crash in the 5000 block of Letterkenny Road just outside what was once the main gate of the depot, Franklin County Coroner Jeffrey R. Conner said. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Chief Deputy Cooroner Paul T. Reed, Conner said.

WOODSBORO, Md. - Police credited the quick thinking of a Frederick County school bus driver for saving the lives of the students she was driving when a dump truck crashed into the bus Thursday morning on Md. 550 near Pine Tree Road.
