A pedestrian was reportedly struck by a vehicle Wednesday morning in the 800 block of Dual Highway, a supervisor for Washington County Emergency Services said. Police responded at 6:50 a.m.  The scene was cleared by 7:25 a.m. No other information was immediately available.

Traffic was snarled Monday afternoon after a vehicle crashed in the Dual Highway median at the intersection of Interstate 70, according to a Maryland State Police spokesman. Gary Leslie Smith Sr., 59, of Hagerstown, told state police he fell asleep in the Ford Ranger he was driving when the accident occurred, Trooper Charles Faith said. Faith said Smith was coming off Interstate 70 and was about to proceed west on Dual Highway at about 4:15 p.m. when he went straight into the median.

The left lane of Dual Highway eastbound is closed from Mount Aetna Road to just beyond Edgewood Drive for wedging and milling. The closure is part of the expansion project of the Dual Highway and Edgewood Drive intersection, Kellie Boulware, a spokesperson for the Maryland State Highway Administration, said. Closure of the lane is expected to last until 3 p.m. today, according to Boulware. Tomorrow the next eastbound lane is expected to be closed in the same location between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., she saidd.

Hagerstown police were investigating a Sunday night armed robbery at the 7-Eleven store at 1623 Dual Highway. The robbery was reported at 9 p.m.. when a man who had been standing in the store for several minutes pulled a handgun and demanded cash and cigarettes from the cashier, police said. The man fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said. A K-9 team tracked the robber to an area nearby, but he was not found, police said. The case was remained under investigation Monday morning, police said.

Patsy Kline said she had been up since 7 a.m. Thursday holding a yard sale. "We do this every year, sometimes twice a year," she said. "This has been going on for about 15 years. " Kline of Wolfsville, Md. and her parents, Clarence and Elsie Flook, are holding a three-day yard sale at the Flooks' home at 1546 National Pike, which is on Dual Highway between Mount Aetna Road and Edgewood Drive. "I love doing this because we meet people from all over the United States," Kline said.

A Washington County grand jury Tuesday indicted a 43-year-old Berkeley Springs, W.Va., man on charges of first-degree murder, second-degree murder and 12 other counts in the shooting death of Heather Harris in her Dual Highway home on June 10, according to court records. The Washington County State's Attorney's Office presented the case against Randy Houston McPeak to the grand jury on Tuesday. County Circuit Court officials received the indictment later in the day, according to court officials and Deputy State's Attorney Joseph Michael.      McPeak has been scheduled for his first appearance in Washington County Circuit Court on July 14 at 9:30 a.m., court officials said.

Neighbors of the Hagerstown woman found shot in the head Friday during a seven-hour standoff between a gunman and police on Dual Highway said she had not lived in the home very long. Other than an occasional wave or “hello” between neighbors, she kept mostly to herself. Heather W. Harris of 1606 Dual Highway was pulled from her house Friday evening by police after sustaining life-threatening injuries, police said. She was taken to Meritus Medical Center, where she remained in critical condition Monday morning, a hospital representative said.

Police responded to an accident on Interstate 70 southeast of Hagerstown at about 9:50 a.m. Friday, a supervisor for Washington County Emergency Services said. The accident happened at the Dual Highway (U.S. 40) overpass at exit 32. Police cleared the accident scene by 10:10 a.m.

Hagerstown Police are investigating an armed robbery Wednesday morning at gas station on Dual Highway. The robbery at the BP station at 1760 Dual Highway was reported at 1:33 a.m., police said in a news release. A male armed with a knife robbed the store of an undisclosed amount of money and cigarettes, police said. He fled on foot. The robber wore a mask, a gray hooded sweat shirt, a black stocking hat and blue jeans, the release said. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call HPD's Criminal Investigations Division at 301-790-3700, ext. 234.

When C.A. Millburn saw the mother duck and from 15 to 25 ducklings trying to cross Edgewood Drive in the area of Hagerstown Commons on Wednesday at 11 a.m., he swung into action. Millburn, a reserve officer in the Maryland Natural Resources Police Reserve Officer program, said he stopped traffic in both directions. Then, he said, he began helping the ducklings, which were having trouble getting over a curb, make it to safety. Other motorists got out of their cars to help, said Millburn, who lives off Dual Highway.

A Frederick, Md., man who was helping to push a disabled car in the slow lane of eastbound Interstate 70 was killed Tuesday evening when the vehicle that was being pushed was struck by another car, according to Maryland State Police . The accident was reported at 6:43 p.m., and it occurred in Washington County just west of the Frederick County line where National Pike (U.S. 40) crosses the interstate. State police said that Adam C. Gammon, 37, of Bethel Road, Frederick, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

A man made off with an undisclosed amount of money following a robbery at Brother's Pizza Express at 1732 Dual Highway Tuesday afternoon, said Sgt. John Lehman of the Hagerstown Police Department. The man showed a handgun during the 3:50 p.m. robbery and escaped in a vehicle, Lehman said. No one was hurt Lehman said. Lehman declined to give more specifics of the robbery Tuesday night because of an ongoing investigation.

Authorities are expected to reopen Dual Highway soon after they responded to the 1600 block of the road for a smoke condition in a house, according to a Washington County 911 supervisor. It turned out the problem was a furnace malfunction, the supervisor said. There was no fire in the house and no one was hurt, the supervisor said. The intersection of Dual Highway and Edgewood Drive was shut down to allow crews access to the home, the supervisor said about 2 p.m. The call for the investigation went out at 1:42 p.m.
