WALDORF, Md. -- Perhaps the only thing more impressive than South Maryland's dominant run to the Maryland State 11-12 Little League Tournament was Conococheague's dominance of South Maryland in their first-round game Saturday. South Maryland allowed merely seven hits, while outscoring its opponents 63-2 in its 4-0 run through District 4. Those numbers didn't faze District 1 champion Conococheague, which erupted for 13 hits in a 13-2, four-inning rout Saturday. "We thought we were going to see some top pitching," Conococheague manager Mike Iseminger said.

Bouncing back from any loss can be tough. In a double-elimination tournament, there's are no other choices. It's win or go home. Sharpsburg continued to bounce back from its second-round loss, eliminating defending champion Conococheague 9-4 in a losers' bracket game Monday in the Maryland District 1 11-12 tournament. “Seems like since I've been involved in the league, we have a habit of having to come back,” said Sharpsburg manager Scott Bare. Sharpsburg didn't have to fight back in this game, scoring three runs in the top of the first off four hits, including an RBI single by Lane Gay. In the second, Jon Grimm tacked on another run when he walked, advanced on a groundout and a passed ball, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Dalton Shank to make it 4-0. Conococheague got on the board in the third.

"Federal's done a great job battling through the losers' bracket, but we assumed they'd be tired, so we were going to make them throw strikes," Halfway manager Duane Gigeous said.
