An 8-year-old boy was flown Saturday night to Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., after two dirt bikes collided on private property in the 12000 block of Knight Meadow Drive, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office. The accident was reported at 7:16 p.m., and the child was alert and conscious when a deputy arrived, deputies said. The 12-year-old riding the other dirt bike did not require treatment, deputies said. The sheriff's office did not have any additional details Sunday.

A 13-year-old Washington County boy who moved with his father to Florida just six weeks ago will return home Friday to be buried. Ron Koger said his son, Ronald Koger III, died Tuesday when his dirt bike collided with an all-terrain vehicle near Cape Coral, Fla. "He was always happy," Ron Koger said Thursday during a telephone interview. "He was an all-American boy. He died what he loved doing. " Ronald Koger III also was the son of Valerie Koger. Koger said he and his son were at an undeveloped piece of land where people go to swim and ride motorcycles.

ROUZERVILLE, Pa. -- Cindy Kling is a mother on a mission, photocopying and passing out dozens of fliers about the theft of her son's dirt bike. She has been thinking about how the boy saved for years to buy the 1999 Kawasaki KX 60cc, which was stolen from the family's driveway July 18. "He was pretty torn up. He'll say things like, 'There are just not-nice people out there,'" Kling said. Noah Houser, 11, watched motocross on television at age 3 and immediately wanted a dirt bike.

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - A Berkeley County, W.Va., boy was killed Tuesday afternoon when the dirt bike he was riding collided with a car near Hedgesville, authorities said. Berkeley County Sheriff's Department Cpl. Steve Vigh said a 14-year-old, whose name and address were not released, died as a result of a 4 p.m. accident on Butts Mill Road, near Providence Church Road. Vigh said the boy's dirt bike, which was traveling west, and an eastbound car, which he did not describe, collided head-on.

MARTINSBURG, W.VA. martinsburg@herald-mail.com The driver of a car that collided with a dirt bike Tuesday afternoon, killing the teenager on the bike, lost control while going around a curve and slid sideways into the bike, police said. Cpl. Willie Johnson, with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department, declined to identify the driver of the car because he is 17 years old. The boy on the dirt bike, Michael Travis Gault, 14, of Hedgesville, W.Va, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in solving a burglary that occurred last week in the 19000 block of Portsmouth Drive off Marsh Pike that resulted in the theft of two motorcycles. Police said a 2009 Kawasaki dirt bike and a 2003 Kawasaki KX100 dirt bike were stolen after a garage door was kicked in at the scene. The burglary occurred between 4 p.m. Thursday and 2:45 p.m. Friday, according to the sheriff’s office. Anyone with information about the theft can call Deputy Bryan Teets at 240-313-2878, ext. 6179.

Dirt bike taken from Boonsboro shed BOONSBORO - A $6,000 dirt bike was stolen early Wednesday morning, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department. The bike, a green 1998 Kawasaki dirt bike, was kept in a metal shed behind 3 Ford Ave., deputies said. In one accident, a Falling Waters man died when the dirt bike he was driving collided with the side of a pickup truck. In the other, two men died when their Jeep hit a tree, according to police. Terry Lee Pannuty, 40, of Falling Waters, died in the wreck involving the dirt bike at around 10 p.m. Sunday on U.S. 11 near Falling Waters. In a second accident, reported at 12:54 a.m. Monday on Buck Hill Road, Joshua Routson, 22, of Virginia, and a passenger in his Jeep, John Holloman, 29, of Ganotown, W.Va.

A Martinsburg, W.Va., man is expected to survive injuries he suffered after he wrecked a motorcycle on Summit Point Road Sunday evening, according to a Jefferson County Sheriff's Department spokesman. Michael Pierson, 30, was riding a dirt bike on Summit Point Road at McCormack Lane when he went into a curve, said Cpl. Dustin Tabler, who responded to the scene about 6:49 p.m. The motorcycle hit some potholes and Pierson was ejected over the front of the motorcycle, Tabler said.

Twelve sheds in Hagerstown were burglarized this week and police believe the individuals involved were looking for mopeds, all-terrain vehicles or dirt bikes, according to Capt. Mark Holtzman of the Hagerstown Police Department. Police believe the suspects were looking for those types of vehicles because a dirt bike was stolen in one of the incidents, Holtzman said Wednesday. He said police believe the suspects were looking for vehicles because other items of value were not taken from the sheds.

Man charged with failing to register as sex offender WAYNESBORO, Pa. - A Waynesboro man has been charged with failing to register as a sex offender, Pennsylvania State Police said. Philip W. Crawford Jr., 39, of Waynesboro, was charged with failure to comply with the registration of sexual offenders requirements, according to a state police news release. Troopers said Crawford failed to report his change of address last month.
