The word "schmuck" is never actually used in "Dinner for Schmucks. " The characters talk of "idiots" instead, which is what the Yiddish word means. It's disappointing that the film isn't eager to embrace a hilarious word like "schmuck". Try it yourself. Say it slowly and put a lot of emphasis on the "m. " Pretty funny, right? But the film wastes the opportunity to make constant use of the word. Everything about the film is a wasted opportunity. Paul Rudd stars as Tim Conrad, a young go-getter at a money management firm.

Turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and other traditional Thanksgiving trimmings weren't the only things being served up at the Boonsboro Bible Church on Thursday. Boonsboro resident Charles Wiles said he received a substantial serving of blessings. “If you want to be blessed with a good meal, they'll bless you,” he said. Wiles urged his family to stop by the church for its free meal, so his wife, Cindy, could avoid the preparation and cleanup from a meal at home. He said her work schedule is sometimes unpredictable when she's on call at a hospital.

FUNKSTOWN - The Funkstown Lions Club will hold a ham and oyster dinner Saturday, Oct. 30, at the Funkstown fire hall, said Gail Mongan, who is with the club. Food will be served from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dinner will cost $14 for adults and $7 for children, he said.

INWOOD, W.Va. - St. Leo Catholic Church hosted Outback Steakhouse from Martinsburg June 14 for a fundraising dinner at the church's Fellowship Hall on Sulphur Springs Road. More than 250 people attended the dinner, which was provided by Outback to benefit the St. Leo building debt fund. Outback served grilled steak, chicken, baked potatoes and salads. A door prize for a $100 certificate for auto detailing by Let it Shine of Martinsburg was won by Andrew Rocheck. The church and Outback Steakhouse donated surplus meals and desserts to the Rescue Mission in Martinsburg.

Christmas dinner will be served free at a number of locations in Hagerstown. The Hagerstown Union Rescue Mission dinner is open to anyone and will be served on Christmas day beginning at noon. The menu includes turkey, ham and all the trimmings. The mission is located at 125 N. Prospect St. Christmas with Nick is at the Four Points Hotel on the Dual Highway and is open from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Anyone can come. Bethel Assembly of God, at 515 E. WILLIAMSPORT - A dinner to help with the restoration of Riverview Cemetery will be Saturday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Williamsport United Methodist Church at 25 E. Church St. Tickets cost $6 per person for both eat in and takeout. The menu includes meatloaf, mashed potatoes, gravy, glazed carrots, applesauce, rolls and butter, pumpkin pie, coffee and iced tea. The Hagerstown Area Church Softball League will hold its fourth annual sports dinner June 26 at 6 p.m. at Tri-State Fellowship on Cearfoss Pike in Hagerstown.The guest speaker will be former Major League Baseball player Pat Kelly, founder of Life Line Ministries in Ellicott City, Md. Kelly played 13 years in the major leagues with the Minnesota Twins, Kansas City Royals, Chicago White Sox, Orioles and Cleveland Indians. He was selected to the American League All-Star team in 1973 and was a member of the Orioles' World Series team in 1979.
