Leiters Mill Road at the bridge over Antietam Creek is to be closed effective Monday, according to the Washington County Division of Public Works Engineering and Construction. The bridge will be closed to thru traffic from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for a project scheduled to be completed by the end of the week. A detour will be posted.

The Washington County Division of Public Works announces road closures and detours for this week. The north end of Glenside Avenue will be closed to through traffic for paving installation Tuesday and Wednesday. Glenside Avenue off Oak Ridge Drive will become a two-way street for those two days and will be accessible from Oak Ridge Drive only. Resley Road will reopen to traffic at 9 a.m. Monday. Resley Road will serve as the designated detour route for Rice Road, which will close Tuesday for 14 weeks to allow for a culvert replacement.

The 33rd Mountain State Apple Harvest Festival parade on Saturday is expected to effectively detour traffic in downtown Martinsburg for more than three hours, according to organizers and police. Vehicle traffic will be prohibited from traveling on the parade route and the course for Apple Trample 5K race beginning about 11:30 a.m. Saturday, police said. The parade, which starts in the 1300 block of West King Street, is slated to start at 1 p.m. With 196 parade units registered, Apple Harvest Festival board member Kevin McBee said this week he expects the procession could last three to four hours from start to finish.

A drainage improvement project will necessitate the closure of Ernstville Road in the Big Pool area of Washington County for approximately six weeks, effective at noon Thursday, June 14, according to a news release from Washington County. A detour will be posted to route traffic around the project, the release said. East Antietam Street is closed to all traffic between Potomac Street and Renaissance Way. Work crews from the City of Hagerstown's wastewater division are repairing a sanitary sewer lateral on the street, according to a traffic advisory from the city's website, www.hagerstownmd.org . The work requires excavation and trenching in the street. A detour route has been established to direct traffic around the closure, using South Potomac Street, East Baltimore Street, and South Locust Street.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has announced a bridge closure starting this week on Jack Road over Back Creek at the St. Thomas/Hamilton townships line in Franklin County. The bridge will be closed for four months while construction crews demolish the existing structure and build a new bridge. The $2.6 million contract was awarded Oct. 31, 2010, to Clearwater Construction Inc. of Mercer County and includes the construction of two new concrete bridges over Back Creek on Jack Road and St. Thomas-Williamson Road, according to a news release.

Beginning next week, contractor Grannas Bros. Stone and Asphalt Co. of Blair County, Pa., will begin evening detours for ramp work at the U.S. 522/U.S. 30 interchange. There will be overnight detours from 5 p.m. to as late as 7 a.m., according to a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation news release. Only one interchange ramp will be closed at a time for paving operations. Detours will include: Westbound U.S. 30 travelers wishing to access U.S. 522 will use a 4.2-mile detour that will reroute them from U.S. 30 to Lincoln Way West and to U.S. 522. Eastbound U.S. 30 travelers wishing to access U.S. 522 will use a 4.5-mile detour that will reroute them from U.S. 30 to Lincoln Way East and U.S. 522. U.S. 522 travelers will use a 2.9-mile detour that will reroute them from U.S. 522 to Pa. 1004 to westbound U.S. 30, and a 2.9-mile detour that will reroute them from U.S. 522 to Pa. 16 to Pa. 1006 in order to access U.S. 30 eastbound.

Coffman Farm Road in Keedysville is closed to through traffic between Millrace Lane and Md. 845 for work on the bridge over Little Antietam Creek, according to a press release from Washington County. The road was to have been closed Tuesday, Sept. 6, and was scheduled to reopen Friday, Sept. 9, but the closure was postponed until Monday. A posted detour is up while the road is closed. Local traffic can still pass through the area. The road is expected to reopen Wednesday afternoon.

King Street will be closed to all traffic between Antietam and Baltimore streets beginning Monday at 7 a.m. as demolition continues on the former Washington County Hospital. The street is expected to reopen to traffic by 6 p.m. Monday. The street closure also will occur Tuesday and Wednesday during the same hours. A detour will be implemented to direct drivers around the work area using other streets. Drivers approaching the closure should expect to encounter barricades, detour signs and other traffic-control devices.

The eastbound lane of West Antietam Street in Hagerstown is closed between Burhans Boulevard and Walnut Street. Columbia Gas is replacing a gas main on that block of West Antietam Street, according to a press release from the city of Hagerstown. The project requires excavation in the eastbound lane of the street. A detour has been set up for traffic heading in that direction. Traffic heading westbound on West Antietam Street should not encounter any problems during the project, according to the release.
