CRANSTON, R.I. -- The Clear Spring bats that produced big offensive numbers were quieted Sunday in the opening round of the Little League Baseball 9-10 Eastern Regional Tournament. Representing Maryland in the Mid-Atlantic Division, Clear Spring mustered only one hit in a tough 1-0 setback to Delaware in the beginning of pool play. Maryland will return to pool-play action Tuesday at 11 a.m. against New Jersey. "We were not aggressive and left a lot of pitches go by," said manager Pete Lazich.

HAGERSTOWN -- Delaware Tech led from wire to wire to defeat the Hagerstown Community College women's basketball team 74-59 on Sunday afternoon during the final day of the Hagerstown Classic at the HCC athletic complex. "We were trying to push it inside as much as we could," Delaware Tech coach Jim Kane said. "We thought that we could control the boards. We used different types of pressure defense. We kept changing the defenses to try to confuse them. " Dohnay Banice, a 5-foot-11 sophomore center, had game-high totals of 21 points and 16 rebounds for Delaware Tech (3-1)

BRISTOL, Conn. -- The Conococheague 11-12 All-Stars control their own destiny. There is only one team that stands in the way of reaching the Mid-Atlantic Regional semifinals. Conococheague squares off against Pennsylvania today at 10 a.m. to decide its fate. Pennsylvania defeated Delaware 5-3 on Tuesday to raise its pool play record to 2-1, while dropping Delaware to 1-3. Conococheague is ready for the task at hand. "The kids are pretty loose," said Conococheague manager Mike Iseminger.

BRISTOL, Conn. -- The Conococheague Little League All-Stars lost 8-5 to M.O.T (Middletown-Odessa-Townsend), Delaware, in the opening game of the 11-12 Mid-Atlantic Region tournament Friday. Conococheague is 0-1 in pool play. It's next game will be Sunday at 5 p.m. against South Shore National of Staten Island, N.Y.

SEPT. 14, 1944-MARCH 4, 2009 Jo Carol (Mom Mom) Mizelle, 64, of 16806 Longfellow Court, Hagerstown, Md., died Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown. Born Sept. 14, 1944, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of Paul R. and June L. Davis Andrews of Hagerstown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Mizelle, on April 19, 2004. She attended South Hagerstown High School. She was formerly employed with MBNA Bank in Delaware for 14 years.

FEB. 23, 1925-NOV. 11, 2008 MILLSBORO, Del. - Marjetta Louise "Marge" White Sinn, 83, of Atlantic Shores Rehabilitation and Health Center in Delaware, and formerly of Baltimore, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008. Born Feb. 23, 1925, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Henry W. White Sr. and Harriette G. White. She attended Hagerstown High School. She was employed by the former Green Lantern Restaurant in Hagerstown. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Hagerstown and later attended the Lutheran Church in Selbyville, Del. She is survived by one sister, Henrietta A. Kuhn of Hagerstown; three nieces, Pamela L. Johnston, Patricia L. Crist and Cindy L. Sullivan; and two nephews, Jeffrey L. Sullivan and Brian R. Sullivan.

DEC. 2, 1936-FEB. 7, 2009 MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Calvin R. Cooley, 72, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at his home. Born Dec. 2, 1936, in Barnesville, Md., he was the son of the late Franklin Clark Cooley and Maggie Elizabeth Davis Cooley Cole. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Ann D'Angelo Cooley. He was a self-employed carpenter and painter. He is survived by two daughters, Stephanie Michael of Martinsburg and Rhonda S. Layman of Delaware; one son, Roger Cooley of Delaware; three sisters, Hazel Crofton and Nancy Dixon, both of Virginia, and Ollie Tavenner of Maryland; two brothers, John F. and George W. Cooley, both of Maryland; 11 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Born June 18, 1962, in Grants, N.M., he was the son of Rose Little Evans of Delaware and the late Orvale Evans. He was a 1980 graduate of Newark High School in Delaware. He is survived by his wife, Dawn Evans; one son, Dustin Evans of Martinsburg; two stepsons, Justin Cole and Austin Cole, both of Martinsburg; two brothers, Terry Evans of Delaware and Timothy Evans of Guam; nieces; and nephews.

J ULY 2,1932-DEC. 4,2008 NEWARK, Del. - Mr. Donald "Don" Lewis Davis, age 76, of Newark, died on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, at Christiana Hospital. Mr. Davis was born in Hagerstown, Md., on July 2, 1932, son of the late Claude S. Davis and Pauline V. Renner Davis. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and, in 1955, accepted a position in the accounting department of Avon Products, where he would continue to work until his retirement as a senior accountant in 1984.
