Authorities have identified a man who was found dead Sunday in the 16400 block of Broadfording Road northwest of Hagerstown, but have not yet released his name, a spokeswoman for the Washington County Sheriff's Office said Monday afternoon. Deputy 1st Class Carly Hose said the sheriff's office is not releasing the name due to the ongoing investigation. The body was taken to the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy to determine the cause of death, the sheriff's office said.

WELSH RUN, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police have identified the man they say shot a woman Saturday night and then killed himself at a home in Montgomery Township. Charles Eugene Hawbaker, 43, was identified as the man who shot the 42-year-old woman, whom police have not identified because she was a victim of domestic violence. The shootings happened between 11 p.m. and midnight at 6820 Dumeny Road, which is listed as Hawbaker's address in the Franklin County Voter Registration Office.

martinsburg@herald-mail.com MARTINSBURG - A medical examiner believes the 93-year-old man found dead inside his Airport Road home late Sunday died from blunt force trauma to the head, and police say he was tied up and money was taken. Sgt. Deke Walker of the West Virginia State Police said Wednesday that final autopsy results had not yet been submitted to his office. He said, however, that Dr. Jack Frost in the Medical Examiner's Office in Morgantown said the cause of death was blunt force trauma.

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - A Charles Town man has been charged in a traffic accident in which another man died, authorities said Thursday. Obie Wines, 31, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol causing death following the Wednesday night accident, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department said. Wines was still at Jefferson Memorial Hospital on Thursday, said Chief Deputy Jesse Jones. Jones identified the dead man as Glenn Dodson, 33, of Charles Town, who was a passenger in Wines' car. Wines was driving south on Bloomery Road when the car ran off the road and struck a tree, Jones said.

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - A Harpers Ferry, W.Va., man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a man whose body was found Thursday afternoon in a room at the Town House Motor Lodge, according to Douglas Nichols, interim chief of the Charles Town Police Department. Richard Allen Ashbaugh, 37, is also charged with distribution of heroin, Nichols said this morning. The dead man has been identified as Jonathan Parks, 26, of Brunswick, Md., Nichols said. His death, which has been ruled a murder, was by way of an overdose of heroin.

HAGERSTOWN -- A body was found Friday morning along railroad tracks in the area of Pennsylvania Avenue and Prospect Street, a Hagerstown Police Department detective said Friday. The body, that of a white male, had not been identified as of Friday afternoon, Detective George Brandt said. An acquaintance of the dead man found the body, Brandt said. The body was taken to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Baltimore so a cause of death could be determined, Brandt said.

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Frederick police say an officer shot and killed a 52-year-old man who charged at him with a claw hammer. Officer Frank Rucci, an eight-year veteran, has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of an internal investigation. The name of the dead man hasn't been released, pending notification of his family. Lieutenant Shawn Martyak says Rucci was the first officer to respond to the Elmwood Terrace apartment complex after a series of 911 hang-up calls at about 3:20 a.m. Tuesday.

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - A Breezewood, Pa., man was killed and three others were injured Thursday afternoon in a three-car accident in Todd Township north of McConnellsburg, state police said Friday. The dead man was identified as Charles D. Fletcher, 69. He was pronounced dead at Conamaugh Hospital by Cambria County, Pa., Coroner John Kwiatkowski. A passenger in Fletcher's 1996 Subaru, Douglas E. Weiger, 64, also of Breezewood, was transferred to Hershey Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition Friday.

waynesboro@herald-mail.com A Frederick man was struck and killed instantly by lightning Saturday afternoon while he was sitting on the deck in the rear of his home, city police said. Afternoon thunderstorms that rumbled across the region also caused a 17-year-old boy to suffer minor injuries after being struck by lightning at a swimming pool at Fort Detrick, police said. The dead man was identified as Michael Paul Palmer, 55, of 1826 Millstream Drive. He was discovered lying on the deck by his 18-year-old son who went out after hearing a loud noise, police said.

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - An 18-year-old Berkeley Springs man died Tuesday night after he was struck by a car while riding a bicycle along U.S. 522 about six miles north of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia State Police said. Police identified the dead man as Justin McAnulty. The accident occurred between 9 and 10 p.m. when Brian Daniel Murray, 47, of Berkeley Springs was driving a 2003 Mazda south on the highway, police said. Murray struck McAnulty but told police he thought he had hit a deer, police said.

CHARLES TOWN, W.VA. - There were conflicting statements from people the night Larry Hose was shot to death outside Images nightclub in 2003 about whether the victim had a knife during a confrontation with Raymond Hoak, according to testimony Tuesday during the second day of Hoak's murder trial. West Virginia State Police Trooper Mike Cole said police took a statement from a man who was with Hoak the night Hose was killed, and the man said Hose pulled a knife. But Hoak never mentioned Hose having a knife, Cole testified in Jefferson County Circuit Court.

For 2 1/2 months, Montgomery County, Md., tried to collect a 2006 parking ticket fine from George McAllister, who lived near Funkstown until he died in 2001. All along, Vera McAllister, George's widow, knew the county was mistaken. George wouldn't have been driving a Mercedes, as the notice alleged, and he certainly didn't park illegally on Hampden Lane in Bethesda on Jan. 17, 2006. Although the license plate number on the ticket once was his, he canceled it in 1988. Vera McAllister, who lives on Beaver Creek Road, promptly protested each notice of the fine.

Dead man had ties to Montana, South Carolina WILLIAMSPORT - A body found along the railroad tracks Monday afternoon near the W.D. Byron Tannery has been identified as that of a 36-year-old Native American with past ties to North Carolina and more recently, Montana. Lynn Littleboy Burke has family living in Montana who were notified of his death on Tuesday, said Cpl. Roy Harsh of the Washington County Sheriff's Department. The body was discovered at 12:15 p.m. Monday near Bottom Road.
