The Country Western Dance Association will hold line dancing for singles and couples Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Maugansville Ruritan Building on Maugans Avenue. The dance is a potluck Christmas party. It is open to the public. Tickets cost $5 for members and $7 for nonmembers. For more information, send an email to tdavis1856@yahoo.com. Tree sale continues The Maugansville Ruritan Club's Christmas tree lot is open at the old Sears Automotive lot at Long Meadow Shopping Center, at the corner of Northern Avenue and Hamilton Boulevard.

For more information, call 301-739-9424. Chime players On Sunday during the 10 a.m. worship service at Covenant Presbyterian Church, the church's chime choir will play Christmas carols. Three octaves of the Malmark Chimes were purchased with memorial gifts in 1994 from Plumsteadville, Pa. The shape and precise tuning of the choirchime provides a beautiful tone. The chime choir is under the direction of Barbara Biser of Hagerstown. The community is invited.

Square dancing to Lady Gaga? Maroon 5? “Come Sail Away” by the rock band Styx? People who have not been to a square dance in the last 15 years might have thought they were in some strange musical dream when they went to the 55th anniversary celebration dance for the Gad-Abouts Square Dance Club Sunday at the Washington County Agricultural Education Center. Hunter Keller, who was the caller for Sunday afternoon's dance, said there has been a trend over about the last 12 years of adding modern tunes to square dancing.

Washington County was recognized as one of the 100 best communities for young people by America's Promise Alliance and ING U.S. during a ceremony Friday evening at Valley Mall in Halfway. Shalom Black Lane, executive director of Teens Have Choices of Washington County, said the honor was announced Sept. 12. She said Friday's event, which included a dance off for teens and a number of educational booths, was the formal acceptance ceremony. “It's a really huge honor for us to be named one of the 100 best communities for youths in America,” Black Lane said.
