Hagerstown Community College will host the Equinox Dance Company for a special performance on Friday, Jan. 25, at 7:30 p.m., at Kepler Theater on HCC's campus. Based in Frederick, Md., Equinox Dance Company is a contemporary women's dance group for adults that specializes in fusing modern dance with jazz and tap. Company members choreograph their own dances and frequently offer free classes and shows for children and adults. The event is free and open to the public. The Country Western Dance Association will hold its first dance of the new year Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m. at the former Quincy School gym, 7888 Anthony Highway in Waynesboro, Pa. The dance is for singles and couples and is open to the public. Tickets cost $5 for members and $7 for nonmembers. Weekly Thursday night bingo planned The Maugansville Volunteer Fire Departmant holds bingo every Thursday at the fire company, 13730 Maugansville Road. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., early birds start at 6:30 p.m. and regular games begin at 7 p.m. Junior packages cost $23 and include five regular games, a pack of special games, one pack of cookies, two wild card double bingo, two you pick 'ems and two bonanzas.

Three women dressed in traditional Song Dynasty garb, one holding a flower, danced in fog as part of the “Qingming Riverside” production performed by the Hong Kong Dance Company at The Maryland Theatre on Tuesday. The production explores through dance the Northern Song Dynasty, which lasted from A.D. 960 to 1127. “This is a rare opportunity to show all kinds of Chinese dances in this environment,” Hong Kong Dance Company Executive Director Gerard C.C. Tsang said. “We are happy to introduce Chinese Dance to people in the states.” The Maryland Theatre was one of three locations that the company is visiting in the United States.

Line dance event changes location The Country Western Dance Association has changed the location for its first line dance event of the new year. The event will be held at Quincy Gym, 7888 Anthony Highway in Waynesboro, Pa. The event will be Saturday, Jan. 12, from 7 to 10 p.m. It will include line dancing for singles and couples. The event is open to the public. Admission costs $5 for members and $7 for nonmembers. In addition, the group will offer line dance lessons Tuesday, Jan. 15, from 7 to 8 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, at the corner of Virginia Avenue and Halfway Boulevard.

For years, students of the performing arts at Hagerstown Community College would study, practice, refine and move on. On Saturday afternoon, in an effort to showcase the results of their efforts, students presented An Afternoon of Song and Dance at Kepler Theater. Vocal and choral instructor Francesca Aguado-Murray said the event was the first she knew of at the college incorporating students of dance, singing and musical theater in one variety show. She credited musical theater and dance instructor Alyssa J. Foley with the idea to gather the students for a joint performance.
