The Hagerstown Country Western Dance Association will hold a line dance Saturday, May 25, from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Maugansville Ruritan Club, 18007 Maugans Ave. The line dance is for singles and couples. Latin dance classes will be offered Tuesdays and Wednesday at 6 p.m. starting May 7 and 8 at Memorial Recreation Center, 109 North St. in Hagerstown. The classes are sponsored by Comunidad Latina de Washington County and will consist of five Latin dances from Bolivia, Puerto Rico, Salvadore, Mexico and Colombia. The classes are geared for those in elementary and middle school. There is a $25 costume fee. Adults are welcome to participate. Children and adults will participate at local- and state-level events, including festivals, parades, etc., as opportunities arise.

The event will include line dancing for singles and couples. Admission costs $5 for members and $7 for nonmembers. It is open to the public. Snacks will be provided. “Could it be? Yes, it could. Something's coming, something good, If I can wait!” The wait will not be long. “Something” is coming this weekend. The words are Stephen Sondheim's in “Something's Coming,” Tony's anticipatory song in “West Side Story.” Those lyrics also anticipate “Orchestral Dances,” the final masterworks concert of the Maryland Symphony Orchestra's 31st season. “The whole orchestra is in the spotlight for this concert,” wrote Music Director Elizabeth Schulze in an email.

Hagerstown Community College will hold a spring dance concert Saturday, April 27, beginning at 2:30 p.m. at Kepler Center on the college campus. The event will feature students in the HCC Dance Company, as well as several students taking dance classes at HCC. A combination of contemporary, jazz, modern and ballet dancing will be performed. It was a campground square dance that prompted Art LaVigne's parents and older sister to take up square dancing. Art was called into action because his sister needed a partner, even though the 12-year-old had no interest at the time. “My parents volunteered me. They dragged me kicking and screaming,” LaVigne said. That attitude changed quickly. LaVigne, 49, who lives in Hagerstown and works full time as an IT support specialist in Rockville, Md., has been caller for the Gad-Abouts Square Dance Club of Hagerstown since 1997, one of the largest square dance clubs in the four-state area.

Students in the Veterans Club and the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at Hagerstown Community College are sponsoring a 1950s-style sock hop and dance Saturday, April 13, from 6 to 11 p.m., in the ARCC. The event will feature free dance lessons from 6:30 to 7 p.m. and performances by swing bands Rick K and the Allnighters and the Holders. Attendees are encouraged to dress in 1950s attire. Light refreshments will be served. Tickets cost $25 per person. Tickets can be purchased in advance by emailing veteransclub@hagerstowncc.edu.

The One Mountain Foundation will host an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner, auction and dance Saturday, March 23, at American Legion Post 239 on McAfee Hill Road in Cascade. The menu includes spaghetti, tomato or meat sauce, meat balls, Italian bread and a variety of rolls, salad with choice of dressings, dessert, and drink (coffee, tea, or water). Dinner will start at 5 p.m., the auction is at 7 p.m. and dancing will be from 8 to 11 p.m. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for those ages 5 to 12. Those younger than 5 will be admitted free.

Show participants include experts in nurseries, lawn and garden equipment, pottery and statuary, landscaping, tree services, stone products, pools, spas, outdoor furniture, florists, wild bird products and natural gourmet gifts from the garden.

The Hagerstown Country Western Dance Association will extend dance lessons for an additional four weeks. Lessons will be from April 2 to 23 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on the corner of Virginia Avenue and Halfway Boulevard. The classes cost $5.
