Williamsport's Cub Scout Pack 17 will host an information night at Williamsport Elementary School Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The event will include information about the benefits of Scouting and the many activities Pack 17 has planned for the upcoming year. Cub Scout Pack 34 held its annual Blue and Gold Banquet Feb. 19 at Christ Lutheran Church in Hagerstown.   Following dinner, the pack held its crossover ceremony for three Webelo II Scouts. Webelos II Den Leader Steve Shubert and Cubmaster David Hardman led the ceremony.   Jakob Bowers, Dylan Johnson and Gavin Shubert were presented with the Arrow of Light, the highest award in Cub Scouting.   Jakob, Dylan and Gavin crossed the bridge into Boy Scouts and were welcomed into Troop 62 by Committee Chairman Carey Leverett, Senior Patrol Leader Colton Duvall, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader Josh Yoder and 2nd Class Scout Chris Rowan.

Cub Scouts from Pack 108 from Old Forge Elementary School attended a Kid Healthy Ideas Tour at the North Pointe Martin's supermarket April 21. They learned about the food pyramid and healthy choices for a balanced diet. On April 18, the Cubs from Pack 108 visited Trego Mountain Sanctuary in southern Washington County. They learned about rehabilation of wildlife and conveservation of natural resources.

On March 10, Cub Scouts, their families and Scout leaders from across southern Franklin County, Pa., in the Tuscarora District of the Mason-Dixon Council, Boy Scouts of America, gathered at Otterbein United Brethren Church in Greencastle for the annual district Pinewood Derby race.  There were 38 Scouts in attendance, which included the top five derby winners at their individual pack level.  Scouts were represented from 10 Cub Scout packs...

Cub Scouts from Pack 117 in Clear Spring took a guided tour April 2 of Hagerstown Regional Airport. The Scouts were accompanied by their cub master, den leaders and family members as they saw the airport terminal and fire and rescue center.   Gilson Spindle led the tour. For their next outing, the Scouts will participate in a community conservation project at Four Locks in Clear Spring.

Cub Scout Pack 108 from the Old Forge District held an Arrow of Light ceremony Feb. 26. The Arrow of Light is the highest award in Cub Scouting. Honored were Kody Zeigler, Kurt Hott, Justyn Russell, Mason Moser, Robert Hood, Joseph Coleman, Jon-Michael Harbaugh, Austin Auger, Jack Roberts, Frank Milihram, Luke Zurek and Dalton Baer. • Pack 108 from the held its crossover ceremony March 16. All Scouts crossed over from Pack 108 Cub Scouts to Troop 108 Boy Scouts. Taking part in the ceremony were Kody Zeigler, Mason Moser, Jack Roberts, Luke Zurek, Frank Milihram, Jon-Michael Harbaugh, Justyn Russell, Joseph Coleman, Kurt Hott, Dalton Baer and Robert Hood.

The Mason Dixon Council hosted its annual Cub Scout Extravaganza on Oct. 18 at Leitersburg Ruritan Park. Approximately 300 Cub Scouts and their siblings attended the event. The attendees had the opportunity to participate in archery, BB shooting, face painting, basketball toss, crafts and a climbing wall. They also visited two campsites, one was a model and the other was to determine what was incorrect with the area. Fran Little and Herm Niedzielski, ham radio operators, demonstrated their equipment and the Cub Scouts talked with other Scouts around the world including New York, Tennessee, Virginia and Illinois.

On Jan. 17, local Cub Scout Pack 66 in Hagerstown held its annual Pinewood Derby race. The top five winners go to the district derby level March 7. The winners were Everest Shives, first place; Cooper McChesney, second place; Hayden Thompson, third place; James Searcy, fourth place; and Camden Casey, fifth place. The Pinewood Derby is a racing event for Cub Scouts. The Scouts, with the help of parents, build their own cars from wood, usually from kits containing a block of pine, plastic wheels and metal axles.

On Feb. 23, the Webelos Scouts from Pack 108 in Old Forge received the Arrow of Light award. Luke Milihram, Hayden Githens and Joshua Hood earned the award, which is the highest award presented in Cub Scouting.

Cub Scouts from Pack 34 held the annual Blue and Gold Banquet and Crossover Ceremony March 9. Three eligible Webelos Scouts, Sean Maguire, Joshua Macias and Brendan Heisler, crossed over to Boy Scout Troop 412, which is sponsored by Paramount Baptist Church.

During the first weeks of February, Washington County Scout units will host open houses and other activities to display their skills and provide an opportunity for new members to join. The mid-year recruitment offers an opportunity for young men who were never Cub Scouts or Boy Scouts to join troops in time to attend spring outings and summer camp. The Boy Scout program is open to young men who are at least 10 and 1/2, and have completed the  fifth grade, and have not turned 18. • Pack 102 , chartered to Wacohu Grange 415, 16412 National Pike, Hagerstown, will host a Pinewood Derby today at 6:30 p.m. at the grange hall.

Cub Scout Pack 102 will hold a spaghetti dinner Friday, Jan. 18, from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at the Wacohu Grange. The community is invited. Proceeds will go to help the Cub Scouts. Library news The Leonard P. Snyder Memorial Library will hold its Lego Building Club Tuesday, Jan.  8, at 3:45 p.m. The children will be given access to Duplos and Legos. There will be a building challenge, but free building will be allowed.   For more information, call 301-842-2730. Also, the library will hold a book discussion Wednesday, Jan. 9, at 11:15 a.m. This month's selection is “Calico Joe” by John Grisham.

Randy James Lohman was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout on Oct. 27 at Hagerstown Church of the Nazarene. He is the son of Debbie and Rich Lohman of Keedysville.   He is a junior at Boonsboro High School, where he is a member of the cross country team and the track teams.  Lohman is a member of Boy Scout Troop 51 of Sharpsburg, which is chartered by St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Troop 51 meets at the church on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Lohman first began Scouting when he was in kindergarten as a Tiger Scout with Cub Scout Pack 66 in Hagerstown.

Cub Scout Pack 34 members from Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hagerstown hiked a portion of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal towpath at the Cushwa Basin in Williamsport on June 16. Two Boy Scouts, Michael and Thomas Milner from Troop 66, assisted the pack with the outing.

A new Boy Scouts troop has started in Funkstown. Troop 23 has six young men who will undertake the challenge of a lifetime in starting the new troop. Unlike Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts is a youth-run organization. The adventure will teach them leadership skills, strengthen their civic support and mold them into model citizens, all while having fun with many outdoor activities.  The last long-running troop in Funkstown was Troop 123, which ran from the early 1960s until 1985.
