Hanley Ramirez doubled to highlight a two-run 10th inning Saturday night, and the Los Angeles Dodgers used seven pitchers to again tame the tepid offense of the Washington Nationals in a 3-1 victory. Adrian Gonzalez led off the 10th with a double off Craig Stammen (5-5). Ramirez followed immediately with an RBI double for his third hit of the night, then scored two batters later on Andre Ethier's sacrifice fly. Ethier won Friday's game with a ninth-inning homer, and the first two games of the series yielded outcomes that kept the teams trending in opposite directions.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Rookie ace Stephen Strasburg exited early, wincing with a strained tendon in his right forearm, and the Washington Nationals went on to beat the Philadelphia Phillies 8-1 Saturday night. Strasburg left with one out in the fifth inning. Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo said the young pitcher would have an MRI exam today. "You're always concerned when a pitcher leaves. We'll see what the MRI says," Rizzo said. Strasburg was making his third start since returning from a stint on the disabled list with inflammation in the back of his right shoulder.

Standing on third base with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning, Ryan Zimmerman still was bummed about the two plays he failed to make in the field earlier Thursday for the Washington Nationals. Knowing that the Cincinnati Reds' relievers are prone to throwing “dirtballs,” Zimmerman was aware that Alfredo Simon might very well miss his mark. Sure enough, Simon threw a wild pitch, and Zimmerman raced home, helping the Nationals extend their best start since moving to Washington with a 3-2 victory over the Reds.

Stepping into the box for his second at-bat, Bryce Harper was determined to swing at the first pitch. He did, and connected on the longest home run of his brief career. Harper homered off the restaurant in center field, Danny Espinosa added a two-run blast and the Washington Nationals beat the Toronto Blue Jays 4-2 Tuesday night, extending their winning streak to five games. “I don't really hit big home runs,” Harper said. “It's usually just line drives that get going. That was a pretty good one tonight.” Jhonatan Solano added his first career homer as the Nationals improved to 6-2 in interleague play.

Ian Desmond slapped his hands together as hard as he could when he approached home plate, about to score the go-ahead run in the 11th inning. His rough day was ending with a very good moment. Desmond made two errors that helped the Cincinnati Reds take the game to extra innings, then led off the 11th with his first home run of the season, rallying the Washington Nationals to a 7-6 victory Saturday. “A lot of mixed feelings right now,” Desmond said. Great American Ball Park can do that to anybody.

WASHINGTON (AP) - On a day that had already featured a pair of marathon games elsewhere in baseball and a doubleheader the next day, the Minnesota Twins and Washington Nationals needed to end extra innings in a hurry. Ryan Doumit made sure they did. Doumit singled in the go-ahead run, Joe Mauer homered, doubled and singled, and the Minnesota Twins defeated the Washington Nationals 4-3 in 11 innings Saturday. “With a split doubleheader tomorrow, the last thing we need on both sides was to go deep into extra innings,” Doumit said.
