MARTINSBURG, W.Va. --A woman charged with one felony count of child abuse resulting in injury is accused of throwing a glass that struck a beam, shattered and cut her 18-month-old daughter's face, according to court records. Angela Marie Kackley, 24, of 222 Frederick St., Apt. 2, Martinsburg, was in Eastern Regional Jail Monday night on a $20,000 cash-only bond set by Berkeley County Magistrate Sandra L. Miller, according to magistrate court records. The child was flown to Children's Hospital in Washington D.C. for emergency surgery after being injured during a domestic argument on July 5 between Kackley and the child's father, according to a complaint filed with the court by Martinsburg Police Patrolman M.J. Somers.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Harpers Ferry, W.Va., Police Chief Charles Wyndham is being sued in U.S. District Court in Martinsburg by a man who alleges Wyndham threatened him, according to court records. Charles Godlove claims Wyndham entered his apartment Aug. 1 on a burglary call and took a bank deposit slip of Godlove's that contained confidential information, according to the lawsuit. Godlove alleges in the suit that when he confronted Wyndham about the bank slip, the chief threatened him if he did not drop the matter.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A bench warrant was issued Tuesday for a woman who did not appear in court on charges that she failed to pay vendors who took part in a fundraiser for a terminally ill girl in April 2007. Jennifer Nicole Swartz, 34, of 141 O'Connor Lane, Martinsburg, was arraigned in July 2007 on a felony count of obtaining money by false pretenses and five misdemeanor counts of writing worthless checks, according to court records. She was released on a $3,500 recognizance bond, court records show.

chambersburg@herald-mail.com CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Waynesboro, Pa., man charged with attempting to kill another man with a butcher knife Sunday morning was in Franklin County Prison Monday and scheduled for a preliminary hearing next week, police and court officials said. Derek Anthony Shoemaker, 21, was charged with one count each of criminal intent to commit criminal homicide, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person, according to court documents.

By RICHARD F. BELISLE Staff Writer CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Franklin County District Attorney John F. Nelson will ask for the death penalty in the case of Albert E. Reid, who has been charged with shooting to death his estranged wife and stepdaughter as they slept next to several young children. Nelson said he will ask the jury to sentence Reid to death because the case meets the state's requirements for aggravated circumstances. Reid has been charged with criminal homicide in the shootings of Carla Reid, 36, of 2204 Sollenberg Road, Chambersburg, and her daughter and Reid's stepdaughter, Diedra L. Moore, 14, while they slept in their beds with young children during the night of Dec. 27, 1996, according to court records.

HIV test ordered for rape suspect By MARLO BARNHART / Staff Writer A Washington County Circuit judge has ordered a Williamsport man accused of second-degree rape to undergo HIV testing sought by the father of the girl involved. Michael John Greijack, now 21, of 11308 White Hall Road, wasn't present in court Tuesday. The girl was 14 when the alleged sexual encounter occurred after both had attended a youth service at their church in the summer of 1999.

Former Miss Maryland Robin Valeria Harmon, who tested positive for cocaine use several times in December, was sentenced to serve three years in prison Wednesday by Washington County Circuit Judge Kennedy Boone. Harmon, 42, received a five-year suspended prison sentence in January 1998. In return for the suspended sentence, Harmon was to stay off drugs. But according to court records, she tested positive for cocaine on at least four occasions in December. The only negative test result was on Dec. 14 when she submitted water instead of urine, according to court records.

And not the relatively less severe county jail. The sentence handed down by Washington County Circuit Judge John H. McDowell on Thursday requires Weaver to do his time in a Division of Correction prison. Weaver, 36, of Big Pool, earned his sentence - one of the longest ever for nonpayment of child support - after years of late payments and missed court dates.

Hagerstown Hotel Associates LLC, which owns the Clarion, was granted an interim order in U.S. Bankruptcy Court that allowed the company to draw $100,000 of its funds to meet payroll and other obligations, according to court records and Bill F. Burruss Jr., one of the hotel's owners.

BELISLE Staff Writer, Waynesboro GREENCASTLE, Pa. - A U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge has ruled that a Greencastle church won't have to repay a court trustee $7,000 that was donated by Mercersburg, Pa., couple before they filed for bankruptcy in January 1995. The money was given to the Greencastle Baptist Church at 2377 Buchanan Trail by Paul B. and Norma J. Williams, formerly of Mercersburg, Pa., said the Rev. Chuck Schroer, pastor at the time the bankruptcy was filed.
