Week of Nov. 12, 1956 Have you ever wondered what you would save in a year's time if you cashed in all the grocery, soap and other types of coupons you receive in packages and through the mail? Well, by talking to a checker in one of our supermarkets, we found out that one of the store's customers who uses coupons regularly told her that he kept an accurate check all during 1955 and that the coupons amounted to exactly $15. The prices of bread and rolls of at least one large bakery serving Hagerstown trade will be increased on Monday, it was announced today.

Hello! October seems to be winding down pretty fast. We just got a new addition to the family - a German shepherd puppy. Needless to say, I feel like I've just had another baby ... but so far, so good. Concert Attention all South High orchestra students from 1968 to 1971, parents, and friends of Marvin Hurley: There will be an alumni concert and dinner Saturday at North Hagerstown High School. Pen Mar Park The Dave Winter Group will be featured Sunday as the Pen Mar Park summer concert series continues. This will be the first time this trio from Dover, Pa., has performed at the park. The band will play from 2 to 5 p.m. Ice cream social The Smithsburg Historical Society will hold its annual ice cream social on Wednesday, Aug. 20. The festivities will begin at 6 p.m. at the museum at 20 E. Water St. in Smithsburg. There will be entertainment and peach ice cream will be featured.

There may be other cards for airlines or hotels. Giant Food Stores spokesman Denny Hopkins and Weis Markets spokesman Dennis Curtin said that about 80 percent to 90 percent of their shoppers use discount cards when they buy groceries. Not everyone has conceded this new lifestyle, though. Some people reject loyalty cards as nothing but a way to gather personal information about them and monitor what they buy. One such activist group is called Consumers Against Supermarket Privacy Invasion And Numbering, or CASPIAN.
