Cumberland Valley School of Music and St. Maria Goretti High School will host a fundraising concert featuring flutist Morgan Jenkins and drummer Marlin Barnes performing and discussing historical music. The concert will support expanded performing arts programs offered by CVSM faculty at Goretti. Student violinist Ethan Hawver and student guitarist Phil Schoff will also perform. Hors d'oeuvres, wine and nonalcoholic beverages will be served. The concert begins at 3 p.m. and takes place at the home of Davitt and Kathryn McAteer, 4704 Kearneysville Pike, Shepherdstown, W.Va.

The sounds of the Christmas season will ring out with the St. James Brass Quintet and the Haven Lutheran Church Senior Choir on Saturday, Dec. 15, beginning at 5 p.m. The yearly concert will include Christmas carols and old-time favorites. As attendees leave the concert, they will be treated to the warm glow of the luminarias at Rest Haven Cemetery next door. The concert is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served following the concert. Haven Lutheran is at 1035 Haven Road in Hagerstown.

Washington County middle and high school students will participate in the 2011 All County Middle and High School Orchestra concert tonight at North Hagerstown High School. If you can't make it to the concert in person, you can watch it on live streaming video at www.herald-mail.com. The concert begins at 7:30 in the North High auditorium. Petr Skopek will conduct the middle school orchestra and Elizabeth Schulze will conduct the high school orchestra. Tickets will be available at the door for $5. Senior Citizen Gold Cards and Board of Education IDs will be honored.

Due to a heat advisory in effect today, this week's Wind Down Friday concert will be held indoors at The Maryland Theatre, 21 S. Potomac St., according to an email from Marci Howes of The Pedestal Design Group. The concert, featuring the music of River Knot, will be held from 5:30 until 8 p.m. today, Potomac Street will not be blocked off this evening and the theater courtyard will be open, Howes said. Admission to Wind Down Friday concerts is a $5 donation for adults and $2 for children ages 12 and under.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The CVSM Community Symphonic Band will be performing its annual Memorial Day concert at 7:30 p.m. on Monday at the Memorial Band Shell at Chambersburg Memorial Municipal Park. Admission to the concert is free, although donations to Cumberland Valley School of Music, the local nonprofit community school of music that sponsors the band and concert, will be greatly appreciated. Lawn chairs and blankets are suggested. The rain location will be Chambersburg Area Middle School.

The Washington County Public Schools All County Middle and High School Orchestra concert will be Saturday, Jan. 29, at 7:30 p.m., at North Hagers-town High School. Tickets cost $4 in advance or $5 at the door.  Senior citizen Gold Cards will be honored. Guest conductor for the high school orchestra will be Maryland Symphony Orchestra music director Elizabeth Schulz.  Petr Skopek will be the guest conductor for the middle school orchestra.    Skopek was born in Prague, Czech Republic, and moved with his family to the United States when he was 12, settling in Frederick County, Md.  He has been an orchestra director in the Frederick County public schools for the past eight years and is a member of the MSO. Skopek’s credentials also include numerous teaching, conducting and performance experiences across the country.

Boonsboro Town Council members Monday night decided to join the town of Williamsport in organizing an all-day rock concert at Williamsport's River Bottom Park to help raise money for a Chesapeake Bay protection program. Counties and municipalities across the state are trying to figure out how to pay for a new state Watershed Implementation Plan, or WIP, to help protect the Chesapeake Bay by reducing nitrogen and phosphorus discharges. The plan is expected to cost Washington County and its municipalities $1.1 billion in the next 13 years in stormwater, wastewater and septic measures.

The Washington County Free Library Noteworthy Sundays at Your Library concert on Sunday, Sept. 9, will feature Terry and Tobias. The concert starts at 3 p.m. and will be held at the Leonard P. Snyder Memorial Branch Library at 12624 Broadfording Road, Clear Spring. Terry Gourley is a singer-songwriter from Baltimore. She sings from the heart, singing everything  from rock 'n' roll to ballads, as well as some pop songs. Gourley is accompanied by acoustic guitarist Tobias Hurwitz, whose blend of classic rock covers and originals is a crowd pleaser.
