Tri-State-area communities will be remembering those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom this weekend by hosting ceremonies, services, parades and speakers. Events in Franklin County and West Virginia's Eastern Panhandle include: Berkeley County, W.Va. In Martinsburg, W.Va., the traditional Memorial Day service at War Memorial Park along North Tennessee Avenue will begin at 10 a.m., according to Steve Catlett, executive director of the Martinsburg-Berkeley County Parks & Recreation Board.

WILLIAMSPORT - "Doughboy Salute," a piece of music just commissioned for Frank Buckles - the last remaining U.S. veteran of WWI - will be performed at the Williamsport Community Band's holiday concert Sunday, Dec. 21, at 2 p.m. at Williamsport High School. Buckles, 107, from Charles Town, W.Va., and the composer, Kenny Bierschenk from Cincinnati, will attend. The piece is a collection of WWI songs with narration. It has been in the works since last summer.

Frederick hosts parade FREDERICK, Md. - The Kris Kringle Procession postponed by last week's snow and ice storm, will be slightly different than originally planned. The parade begins at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at the corner of Patrick and East streets instead of Everedy Square. Participants will line up on South East Street between Patrick and All Saints streets between 5 and 5:30 p.m. Drop off parking will be available in Delaplaine Visual Arts Center parking lot. The procession will march to Baker Park and conclude with closing ceremonies, caroling and lighting of the official city tree.

"The core of the Greencastle Community Band is about 15 to 20 people, but as you can see, we have more than 40 up here," Director Pat Beard told the audience of about 100 people at the Greencastle Church of the Brethren.

WILLIAMSPORT - The Williamsport town museum committee will honor town founder Brigadier General Otho Holland Williams on Monday, July 4, at 11 a.m., at the Riverview Cemetery as part of daylong events celebrating Independence Day. The holiday festivities move to Byron Memorial Park at 7:30 p.m. Following a welcome and invocation at 7:45 p.m., Shannon Draper will sing the national anthem. An AMVETS honor guard will bring in the colors, and the Williamsport Community Band will perform at 8 p.m. Fireworks in the park start at 9:15 p.m. People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

BOONSBORO - The 2003 summer concert series in Boonsboro's Shafer Park will get under way Sunday at 7 p.m. with the Boonsboro Middle School Jazz Band performing. In case of rain, the concert will be held in the middle school auditorium. The remaining concerts, all of which begin at 7 p.m., will feature: June 15, Sound Doctrine, a Southern gospel quartet June 29, Hagerstown Community College's New Horizons Band July 3, Rohrersville Band and fireworks display/celebration.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- The CVSM Community Symphonic Band is accepting new members who are interested in performing in a concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 30. The program for the concert will include classical music, musical theater, jazz, marches and traditional concert band music. Rehearsals are scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m. Sundays, Jan. 9, 16 and 23 in the Chambersburg Area Middle School band room, 1151 E. McKinley St., Chambersburg. The CVSM Community Symphonic Band will be led by Tim Gotwald.
