Baltimore Ravens defensive tackle Kelly Gregg was told all his life to give up, that he "would never make it. " "I never figured out what 'it' was," Gregg told the crowd at the 41st annual Ravens Roost No. 7 Extra Effort Awards Banquet Saturday night at Elks Lodge No. 378. "I knew I was too small and too short, but I didn't think anyone noticed. " But what everyone did notice was the effort and attitude the 6-foot, 310-pound defensive tackle put into everything he did. Going to Oklahoma as a two-time all-state player and a three-time state wrestling champion, Gregg set Big 12 and Sooners records as a defensive lineman.

andrewm@herald-mail.com CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Chambersburg girls basketball team used a strong second half at home Tuesday night to launch what the Trojans hope to be a stronger half of their Mid-Penn Commonwealth Division season. Herald-Mail sixth-ranked Chambersburg beat Cedar Cliff 57-28, outscoring the Colts 31-11 over the third and fourth quarters to pull away for good. The Trojans, who snapped a two-game skid, improved to 8-6 and, maybe more importantly, 1-0 in Commonwealth second-half play.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa - It was the stuff that a good great-taste-less-filling debate is made of. The question, in this case, is did outstanding defense or lackluster offense cause Chambersburg and Cedar Cliff to combine for a paltry 73 points? Even the coaches couldn't agree after the Trojans limped to a 43-30 Mid-Penn Commonwealth victory Tuesday. "There was a lot of defense out there tonight," said Cedar Cliff coach Mark Zerbe. "We didn't want to get into a run-and-shoot game with Chambersburg.

For some, there are better things to do than watch the game By DAN KULIN dank@herald-mail.com When the New England Patriots and St. Louis Rams meet in the Super Bowl tonight, Maureen Miller may be among the millions sitting in front of a television. But she'll be watching HGTV - Home Garden Television. "Had Pittsburgh gone, we probably would have gone to a Super Bowl party," said Miller, 47, of Hagerstown. Like many non-Super Bowl watchers interviewed Saturday, Miller said the game will be on somewhere in her house.

Bowl about beer, Ravens and revenge Leave my quarterback unbroken Don't turn him into dust and gore Take thy cleats from out my heart And take thy logo off my door Quoth the Ravens, "Never score. " (Memo to eighth-grade English teachers: Be careful what you make your kids read - they may actually remember it 25 years later and put it to thoroughly inappropriate use.) Solace? Perhaps. I used to split my affections between the Vikings and the Colts before Irsay's moving vans came.

Colt team gets runs early By JACK HILL III / Staff Correspondent Friday's rained out action did not dampen the performance of the Hagerstown A Colt League all-star team for the next day. Gary Naile fired a four-hitter with nine strikeouts and his teammates supported him early by scoring all six runs in the first four innings.
