It wasn't a case of what the Hagerstown Community College baseball team did. It was more a matter of what the Hawks didn't do. Missed opportunities came back to bite HCC as Harford scored five runs in the top of the eighth inning on Sunday to notch a come-from-behind 7-4 victory and eliminate the Hawks from the Region XX tournament. “We just couldn't come up with the big play or the big hit,” HCC coach Scott Jennings said. “We left the bases loaded in the seventh inning.

Two weeks ago, the Hagerstown Community College baseball team suffered a 15-8 loss on the road at Frederick Community College. HCC coach Scott Jennings had the Hawks better prepared for the Cougars on Thursday, when they came out on top of a high-scoring battle 13-11. Jennings likes how the offense is coming to life for HCC (21-19). “I am really happy with the way that we have swung the bats in the past couple of games,” Jennings said. “We beat two quality teams in Chesapeake and Frederick.

The hitters for the Hagerstown Community College baseball team went through ups and downs on Saturday afternoon during the Hawks' Maryland JuCo Conference doubleheader against Harford. In the first game, HCC came within two outs of being no-hit by left-hander Nick Stallings before Cooper Ayres doubled to right, and Harford held on for a 3-2 win. In the second game, the Hawks got their bats going, scoring seven runs on seven hits in the first two innings on the way to an 8-6 win and a split.

Hagerstown Community College scored six runs in the first inning and piled up 13 hits en route to a 16-6 victory over Chesapeake on Tuesday in a game that was shortened to seven innings due to the 10-run rule. “The offense had a great day,” HCC coach Scott Jennings said. “The first inning was huge. When you put up six runs in the first, it allows your pitcher to relax and makes everything easier.” Eric Schanzenbacher drove in the Hawks' first run with a single. Dylan Dunn doubled Schanzenbacher home to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead.

Allegany College's first 11 batters reached base to start the game against Hagerstown Community College, and all of them scored, putting the visiting Trojans well on their way to a 17-1 victory over the Hawks on Tuesday. The game was stopped after seven innings because of the 10-run rule. “It was a bad day,” HCC coach Scott Jennings said. “When your starting pitcher never gets a man out, it's going to be a long day. There were too many walks in the first inning. There were a couple of dropped balls in the field that should have been caught.

Hagerstown Community College split its final two regular-season games of the season with CCBC-Catonsville on Saturday, winning the first game 9-8 and dropping the second 14-0. HCC (27-25) won the first game in walkoff fashion, as Eric Schanzenbacher stroked a game-winning two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring T.J. Costigan and Andrew Zeger. Costigan pinch-ran for Lazaro Torres, who singled, and was followed by a four-pitch walk to Zeger. Josh Knupp singled to load the bases for Schanzenbacher, who laced a fastball to left-center field.

Eric Schanzenbacher drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth as Hagerstown Community College rallied to beat Potomac State 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon. Terrell Thompson became the potential game-winning run by drawing a walk. He advanced to third on an errant pickoff attempt. Schanzenbacher came to the plate with two outs and lined a 2-2 pitch to left for the win. “I hadn't seen that pitcher, so I sat on the first pitch and was looking fastball,” Schanzenbacher said.

While Tuesday may have been on the chilly side, the Hagerstown Community College baseball team's bats managed to warm up for at least part of the afternoon. The Hawks bounced back from a 10-2 loss in the opener by pounding out an 11-4 victory in the nightcap to gain a split of a Maryland JuCo Conference doubleheader with the College of Southern Maryland. “It was two completely different games,” HCC coach Scott Jennings said. “It was like night and day for us. In the first game, they just outplayed us. They had better hitting, better pitching and better defense.

The Hagerstown Community College baseball team had just as many hit batters - six - as hits on Wednesday. The bumps and bruises led to a 4-3 Maryland JuCo victory over Montgomery-Germantown. Fittingly, the winning run scored on - what else? - a walkoff hit batter. “We can't control that,” HCC coach Scott Jennings said. “It worked for us today. It gave us ways to get on base.” The Hawks (29-25, 13-12) were locked in a 3-3 tie with Germantown (32-16, 11-11) entering the bottom of the ninth.
