Hagerstown Bridge Club  hosted 31 pairs who competed in a club championship game on July 24. Overall winners in Flight A were: first place, Richard Taylor and David Abuhove with a 64.3-percent game; second, Kathleen Goss and Robert Robey with 62.6 percent; third, David Desjardins and John Oyler with 61.2 percent; fourth, Elaine Rowe and Willa Garner; fifth, Aurora McDonough and Michael Ruhl; sixth, Candy Greenway and Eddie Conner. Flight B: fourth, Margaret Hays and Joanne Dickinson; fifth, Marie Sullivan and Melva Urban; sixth, Phillip Davis and Robert Knuff.

Eight pairs competed Friday, Jan. 4, in a club championship game during a meeting of the Little Heiskell Duplicate Bridge Club. Scott and Debbie Kiser finished first in Flights A, B and C with a 57.74-percent game. Bill and Madeline Davis placed second in Flights A and B with 56.55 percent, and Chuck Meister and Claudia Reppert came in third in Flight A with 52.38 percent. The Little Heiskell Duplicate Bridge Club meets at 7 p.m. Fridays at American Legion Post 42 on Northern Avenue in Hagerstown.

Twenty-nine pairs competed in a club championship Wednesday, Dec. 16, during a meeting of the Hagerstown Bridge Club. Overall winners in Flight A were: first place, Ronald Orr and David Abuhove; second place, Elaine Rowe and Fred Wagner; third place, Lois Taylor and Bob Freed; fourth place, Bob Dickinson and Ralph Maier; fifth place, Jean Toth and Rick Elbo; and sixth place, Barbara Beard and David Wells. In Flight B: Maggie Hays and Marie Sullivan finished in third place; Kay Keller and Mary Archer finsihed in fourth place; Phillip Davis and Robert Knuff finished in fifth place; and Ruth Bruce and Shirley Pacini finished in sixth place.

Monday, May 28,2012 ADULT BASEBALL Former North Hagerstown pitcher Colby Fisher tossed a four-hit shutout on Monday to lead the Hagerstown Braves to a 5-0 victory over the Brunswick Orioles and the championship of the Reno Powell Memorial Day tournament. Fisher went the distance as the Braves opened the season with a 6-0 record. Shepherd University star Nathan Minnich had three hits and three RBIs and North Hagerstown junior Andrew Yacyk had a run-scoring single.

The 18th Tri-State Junior Golf Association season begins June 25 with five tournaments on the schedule. The opener will be at Waynesboro Country Club, sponsored by Manitowoc Crane. Second on the agenda is Black Rock Country Club on July 16, sponsored by Parkview Plumbing. Chambersburg Country Club is the host on July 23, followed by Fountain Head Country Club on Aug. 6 and the Tournament of Champions at Beaver Creek Country Club on Aug. 13. “I'm looking forward to seeing the kids that return and to the new players,” said director Bill Hoffman.
